(Is this just an instance of a re-used prop, or an actual "easter egg" along the lines of the alleged appearance of R2-D2?) That movie remains damned satisfying. The kids liked it enough that I rented some of the features for them and watched along. Surprising results: KHAN was not as mind-bendingly awesome as I remembered it (although still quite good), and SEARCH FOR SPOCK was better than I'd recalled, much closer to par with STII (the kids preferred III). And then the whale one was rented out when we went back, so we haven't gotten to that yet, although I assume they'll love it, because they're all about the characters now. They've also seen a smattering of TOS episodes at their mom's place. It's kinda neat how kids are open to vintage TV-- my stepdaughter went through a pretty serious TWILIGHT ZONE phase recently, and all the kids have done time with GET SMART. Then again, the stepdaughter actually finds that thing with the Olsen twins and the other one with Urkel to be watchable, and I can't connect with that on any level... so who knows. - -Rex ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 May 2009 18:49:17 -0700 From: Rex Subject: Re: reap On Sun, May 24, 2009 at 8:59 PM, Tom Clark wrote: > On May 24, 2009, at 8:30 PM, 2fs wrote: > > >> >> That is a shock. >> > > Wow, yeah. It totally took me out of the story for a few moments ("hey look, it's Robyn Hitchcock!") and, really, ANY musician would've been fine for that part. I thought Bill Irwin did an excellent job as the father. Incidentally, Bill came out to Blue Sky Studios years ago to give an acting workshop to all of us animators who were then working on the first Ice Age. Oh yeah, and Jonathan Demme also visited the studio at one point (he's got a place up in Westchester if I recall correctly) and I got him to sign my LP of Storefront Hitchcock. It's explained in the Star Trek: Countdown four-issue comic book prequel. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek:_Countdown I bought all four for $4US from the iTunes store and read it on my iPhone. I thought it was a great read, great comic, and added a lot to the film. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 26 May 2009 16:29:42 -0700 From: Tom Clark Subject: NPR's Song of The Day Nice examination of I'm Falling. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=104534518 - -tc ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 26 May 2009 19:18:06 -0700 From: "Nectar At Any Cost!"
