Subject: Er... ...to what can we attribute the dearth of commentary here upon the new zimmerman disc? i'll get it up at archive.org when i can. again, kick my bunghole a real good one in a week or so. of course, anybody that did grab it is welcome to upload it there before then. feel free to let it...uh, whatever that word is they use that's not coming to mind right now that means to "convert it to all formats". of fucking course! (even though it'll mean not road-trippin' it to missoula to see the decemberists.) the schedule's online; and looking as tasty as ever. i'll also be attending the national folk festival in butte, july 10 - 12. if anybody else is interested in attending, let me know -- you'd almost certainly be welcome to stay at my parents' in whitehall. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 6 May 2009 15:08:53 -0500 From: 2fs Subject: Re: reissue repackage... repackage (100% REM, 0% RH) On Wed, May 6, 2009 at 1:09 PM, m swedene wrote: > http://pitchfork.com/news/35235-rem-to-reissue-ireckoningi/ > > The R.E.M. reissue campaign > continues with a 25th anniversary deluxe edition of their second album, > 1984's *Reckoning*, due out June 23 on > I.R.S./A&M/UMe. > Likelast year's deluxe treatment of R.E.M.'s debut, > *Murmur* >, > the deluxe *Reckoning *is a two-disc set. There are a raft of b-sides, etc., both released and not, floating around. I'd much rather have a remastered version of hte album proper on one disc and contemporary b-sides, outtakes, even demos on the other...rather than a live show. I mean, it's not as if R.E.M. is the Dead or anything: while they could certainly be a good live band, for my ears they're hardly essential listening. I wonder if there's any plans for a hugely expanded _Dead Letter Office_ type deal for all those b-sides etc.? As it is, you know, this is why people "steal" music: I'd like to have cleaned up versions of the albums, but I don't want to pay twenty bucks for a two-disc set, one disc of which I'd listen to maybe twice. - -- ...Jeff Norman The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.wordpress.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 6 May 2009 15:12:33 -0500 From: 2fs Subject: Re: Er... This is actually the first Bob CD I've bought when new for...decades, actually. The last few, I've waited a while. But anyway: to answer your question, probably because not everyone downloads leaked advances weeks before release date and has time to digest and comment on them. I haven't even had a chance to hear it once yet! I mean, didn't it officially drop only yesterday? The music's not going to disappear - I'm sure lots of folks will not form opinions until -shock! - months in the future. Oh and hey: the cover design for the new Sonic Youth thing seems to be paying attention to your notion of hyphenation...or should I say, the new "Sonic-Youth" album... - -- ...Jeff Norman The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.wordpress.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 06 May 2009 16:28:31 -0400 From: "Stewart C. It sounded like something that a pub band would sell at its gigs. Stewart ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 6 May 2009 15:41:32 -0700 (PDT) From: "C. Huff" Subject: Dom DeLuise and The Parallel Universes I Inhabit ...have you ever had the experience that the timeline was changed? I swear on my vinyl of Live At Portland Arms that I saw Dom DeLuise's obituary on TV like 15 years ago. A similar thing happened to me with Richard Dawson (of Family Feud). I read his obit in the paper (he is still alive). So when I saw the news, I thought "But he already died!" And although I did trip the light fantastic quite a bit in my college years, I have a photographic memory for the most part...maybe the TV station ran it by accident? Or maybe I live part-time in a parallel universe? OR maybe THIS is the parallel universe and I am just visiting? Let's compare: was the video for Man With The Lightbulb Head actually played on MTV? I also saw Bob Dylan play a song at UConn in 92 "The Lakes of Pontchartrain". I had never heard that song and thought "That's pretty cool" so I went out and bought a Paul Brady cassette with that song. All bootlegs and official setlists for that date have that place in the set as Little Moses. I even had a conversation w/ my pal Howard who was following Dylan around and he was like "Yeah, he usually plays Little Moses there, but he played that other song"...the webmaster for BobLinks won't talk to me about it anymore lol I'm like "I swear he played it!".... so. here we are. any messages for the other dimension? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 5 May 2009 14:47:02 -0400 (EDT) From: djini@voicenet.com Subject: Re: OH MY FUCKING GOD SOMEBODY FAMOUS JUST DIED I HOPE I CAN BE THE FIRST TO Jeremy wrote: > > Date: Tue, 5 May 2009 12:23:40 -0400 > From: Jeremy Osner > Subject: Re: OH MY FUCKING GOD SOMEBODY FAMOUS JUST DIED I HOPE I CAN BE THE FIRST TO > REPORT IT > > Nah, a couple of people beat you to it already. > But, but - I wanted to make a The End joke! I think my feelings about it can be summed up as "oh, so pretty" and "they must have a whole closet just for scarves. I want one of those!" (that's becoming frighteningly close to reality). Melissa McCarthy is brilliant though, and she's the reason that I watch Samantha Who, where I discovered that I love Jennifer Esposito, who I think should hook up with Barney from How I Met Your Mother. Wow, I am watching waaaay too much TV these days. In my defense, I mostly watch while doing the dishes - I HATE washing dishes. So I cue up hulu or whatever and try not to splash the laptop. We all thought it would be an easy A, but the teacher was super-obsessive. The first day was about the Smiths, and the guy was expecting us all to know super-deep background info on them (and the textbook -- I know, a textbook! -- he gave us listed a bunch of unreleased songs that don't exist and that Morrissey covered "Give It To The Soft Boys"). Elsewhere, I got lost in the library, I took a criminal justice class (?!?), and we went to a confusing party where I spotted a teenage Kate Beckinsale. But because we were our 90s selves even though I knew things that I know now, nobody listened to me. - - Dolph ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 7 May 2009 11:13:59 EDT From: HwyCDRrev@aol.com Subject: since things are quiet http://www.googlism.com/index.htm?ism=robyn+hitchcock&type=1 my blog is "Yer Blog" http://fab4yerblog.blogspot.com/ http://robotsarestealingmyluggage.blogspot.com/ **************Remember Mom this Mother's Day!
