Yeah, I'm disappointed too. There are a raft of b-sides, etc., both released
and not, floating around. I'd much rather have a remastered version of hte
album proper on one disc and contemporary b-sides, outtakes, even demos on
the other...rather than a live show. I mean, it's not as if R.E.M. is the
Dead or anything: while they could certainly be a good live band, for my
ears they're hardly essential listening.

I wonder if there's any plans for a hugely expanded _Dead Letter Office_
type deal for all those b-sides etc.? As it is, you know, this is why people
"steal" music: I'd like to have cleaned up versions of the albums, but I
don't want to pay twenty bucks for a two-disc set, one disc of which I'd
listen to maybe twice.

This is actually the first Bob CD I've bought when new for...decades,
actually. The last few, I've waited a while.

But anyway: to answer your question, probably because not everyone downloads
leaked advances weeks before release date and has time to digest and comment
on them. I haven't even had a chance to hear it once yet! I mean, didn't it
officially drop only yesterday? The music's not going to disappear - I'm
sure lots of folks will not form opinions until -shock! - months in the
future.

Oh and hey: the cover design for the new Sonic Youth thing seems to be
paying attention to your notion of hyphenation...or should I say, the new
"Sonic-Youth" album...

...have you ever had the experience that the timeline was changed?

I swear on my vinyl of Live At Portland Arms that I saw Dom DeLuise's obituary
on TV like 15 years ago.  A similar thing happened to me with Richard Dawson
(of Family Feud).  I read his obit in the paper (he is still alive).  So when
I saw the news, I thought "But he already died!" 

And although I did trip the light fantastic quite a bit in my college years, I
have a photographic memory for the most part...maybe the TV station ran it by
accident? 

Or maybe I live part-time in a parallel universe?  OR maybe THIS is the
parallel universe and I am just visiting?   Let's compare:  was the video for
Man With The Lightbulb Head actually played on MTV?  

I also saw Bob Dylan play a song at UConn in 92 "The Lakes of Pontchartrain". 
I had never heard that song and thought "That's pretty cool" so I went out and
bought a Paul Brady cassette with that song.  All bootlegs and official
setlists for that date have that place in the set as Little Moses.  I even had
a conversation w/ my pal Howard who was following Dylan around and he was like
"Yeah, he usually plays Little Moses there, but he played that other
song"...the webmaster for BobLinks won't talk to me about it anymore lol I'm
like "I swear he played it!"....

so.  here we are.  any messages for the other dimension?

I love how this little glimpses into the past remind us that fegs have been fighting the

I think my feelings about it can be summed up as "oh, so pretty" and "they must have a
whole closet just for scarves. I want one of those!" (that's becoming frighteningly
close to reality). Melissa McCarthy is brilliant though, and she's the reason that I
watch Samantha Who, where I discovered that I love Jennifer Esposito, who I think should
hook up with Barney from How I Met Your Mother. Wow, I am watching waaaay too much TV
these days. In my defense, I mostly watch while doing the dishes - I HATE washing
dishes. So I cue up hulu or whatever and try not to splash the laptop.

Last night, I had a dream that Aaron Lowe & I were in a music
appreciation class at
University of Houston (where we actually met as classmates in waking
life), about 80s music. We all thought it would be an easy A, but the
teacher was super-obsessive. The first day was about the Smiths, and
the guy was expecting us all to know super-deep background info on them
(and the textbook -- I know, a textbook! -- he gave us listed a bunch
of unreleased songs that don't exist and that Morrissey covered "Give It To The Soft Boys").

Elsewhere, I got lost in
the library, I took a criminal justice class (?!?), and we went to a
confusing party where I spotted a teenage Kate Beckinsale. But because
we were our 90s selves even though I knew things that I know now,
nobody listened to me.

before you said this, i'd heard it as "focus on you, liz" -- which,
granted, i didn't think made a hell of a lot of sense.  but i was *still*
hearing it that way, even though i figured "miss" was probably correct.
now this morning i just suddenly heard "focus on your bliss".

not that this helps solves the "myth"/"miss" riddle...a "mucky"/"bucky" for
the '00s, perhaps...


p.s. sorry for being such a dillhammer with the elipses of late.  but,
damn, they're fun.
