So if the Decemberists are Nirvana, I guess the New Pornographers will be Mudhoney (the Band that Should Have Been the Biggest), DCFC would be Pearl Jam (the Slightly Less Quirky but Still Somewhat Worthy Contender), and Modest Mouse would be... well, I dunno, Modest Mouse irritates me almost enough to be a real, actual Grunge Band. But surely abomination awaits! Just as the hair bands of yore got piercings to go alternative, there must be people in...um... some kind of bands studying up on indie-ness in order to become the Alices in Chainses of... like... indie-twee or whatever it is.
