Speaking of which, I was very surprised to learn via the LA Times print edition of the release of a new John Wesley Harding LP with the Minus Five as the backing group. Anyone heard this? I'd also completely missed out on JWH's career as a novelist. Hey, all. Al and I will be attending the show in Seattle next Saturday night. Unfortunately, the seats are all sold out. Does anyone here have a booth reserved that is not using it to its full capacity? We should have just grabbed a block of them. Too late now. Anyway, it's a last minute trip all the way from New Orleans, so how lucky can I expect to be? YES!! Are you and I the only ones who see the brilliance in this song? He takes a phrase we've heard ad nauseam ("There's a thin line...") and uses it to its fullest impact, all the while letting the band build up to full on strumming & harmonizing crescendo. Fuck I can't wait to plant myself in front of Peter Buck and watch them play this live... In related news, during the KCRW performance Robyn said this was written for the Brian Epstein movie. Are you and I the only ones who see the brilliance in this song? Gosh, I hope not! It is a totally amazing song -- I thought so already when I was listening to the live version from last summer -- but the way it is performed and arranged and produced on the record just lift it to an entirely nother level. (And it's not even the best song on the record!) I'm waiting impatiently for this movie to be released. Anyone heard this? It's pretty good; if you order from his website, you get a free bonus live album of Wes and Robert Lloyd doing many of the old, erm, hits that's also nice. I think there other, more extravagant options available as well that included DVDs, small south Pacific islands, and be a Los Angeles Clipper for a month. And, to split hairs: though it is credited as JWH & The Minus 5, it's really more like The Venus 3 + Kurt Bloch and Robert Lloyd. Deni Bonet, Earl Slick, Steve Berlin, and Kelly Hogan are amongst the others who also make appearances.) > I'd also completely missed out on JWH's career as a > novelist. Dunno how that happened, either. Well, John Wesley Harding doesn't have a career as a novelist; Wes Stace does, to split even more hairs, but that's the kind of mood I'm in. I blame . I guess he and Eugene Mirman are organizing a variety show type tour for later this year. "I love how (coffee) makes me feel.
