Uh...actually it's "Nels Cline." And "Asobi Seksu." Anyway: I just listened to the first batch of Max's tapes today in the car - they sound pretty good. This one is a more eclectic, more obscure batch - but it looks like it'll be another fine one. I was referring to the post she wrote on her web site at the time of the Made in China release rather than to her weight as making me wonder. The two subjects ran together and didn't mean to lump them together. I certainly feel for anyone with the issue she is suffering from and I'm glad that she's dealing with it. She really did look like skin and bone the last time I saw her, but that was in 2005... Thanks for the kind words! Even though some of this collection is a little more obscure, I feel like this is a more cohesive collection, style wise. Bored lately and filling up the time.... While he is hunched over like a man thirty years past his age and he's got a bit of a belly and was using the mic stand as a crutch, he can still hold a note. His public speaking and elocution leaves something to be desired, but otherwise put on a good show. The Spider songs weren't all that, but the band seemed to rejuvenate during them. I've no idea what condition Shane will be in for the NYC gigs on St. Patrick's... - -f. PS: Funny thing was as we were leaving the venue and walking to the car Tricia said, "What's that guy doing? Is breaking in?" No. No, he wasn't. He was looking for a place to lean and the driver's side was the most comfortable thing he could see. He moved onto someone's trunk once we got close. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Mar 2009 01:52:48 EDT From: HwyCDRrev@aol.com Subject: NEW on DiME: "Let It Be Me" Robyn Hitchcock Laser Everlys Crocodile Cafe Seattle http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=239976 Torrent #239976 "Robyn Hitchcock covering the Everly Brothers' "Let It Be Me" * Laser Everlys Tribute Concert * Crocodile Cafe * Seattle, WA * July 24, 1999 * SDBD JEMS master" Robyn Hitchcock Laser Everlys Crocodile Cafe Seattle, WA July 24, 1999 JEMS master soundboard > Denon DTR-80P DAT recorder Master DAT > Peak 6.1 > FLAC 01 Let It Be Me Way back in the 20th century, Neko Case and friends organized a one-off tribute show to the Everly Brothers (benefitting the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center) featuring a host of local musicians and others including the Picketts, John Wesley Harding, Dudley Manlove, Zumpano and the Meat Purveyors. Someone was kind enough to let JEMS plug into the board that night. Occasional local Robyn Hitchcock dropped by and offered this lovely reading of "Let It Be Me," which he says he learned from Dylan's Self Portrait. Miss Case's status on the DIME "No" list prevents the whole show from being posted, but Robyn's fine solo performance is kosher. Shortest JEMS torrent ever. Enjoy. Why do I want to hear this again?" You know how your brain locks onto a specific version of a song as the definitive? That's what the D's have working against them with this musical format. Just listened to it in its entirety. I love it -- my favorite since"Her Majesty the Decemberists." But then again, "The Tain" and "The Island" are fucking awesome, so...
