I hope Jill's going, as it will mark 20 years and 12 days since she and I first saw Robyn in that very venue. With my good friend Peter Buck, no less!" I will be there, indeed. As I've said a nauseating number of times before, that was my last concert before I embarked on parenthood. My son will turn 20 this Thursday. I'm freaking out a little. I remember that they held up the concert so that Peter Buck could make his escape from the Boston Garden's REM show in order to play with Robyn. I'm really looking forward to this gig. I'm waiting until March 24th to be disappointed, but if anyone wants this now, e-mail me privately and I'll send you the link. I don't think I'm supposed to display it publicly here. I guess I'll get arrested for this. Jill ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 8 Mar 2009 09:02:53 -0700 From: "John B. Jones" Subject: Re: for Eddie Tews, who probably knows already I downloaded it yesterday just like everyone else. The songs are fantastic, I'm only on listen two and I'm really really digging this. If I had any criticisms it would be to ditch the way each song flows into the next. Some of that flow sounds stilted to begin with (songs don't bump up against each other nicely), but to make an album that you can't shuffle or isolate a track from is unforgiveable in the digital age. I know it is a rock opera and all, but I think the songs would still stand fine with 2 seconds of silence in between each with a proper beginning and end. The repeating melodies throughout the album are annoying as well, but that's just me - I'm not a musicals kind of guy. I understand the medium, but I don't have to like it...but that only makes a song or two that I'll fast forward through near the end of the disc. I'd say that this is a natural progression for them, it feels natural, the songs and arrangements are amazing. The additional female singers are a nice touch -- they can really belt stuff out. Still haven't been able to pick out Robyn's contribution(s) yet, but I was doing other things yesterday while listening. Kinda missed out on the fact that they were touring again. Last saw them in Paris in 1991, with the Sugarcubes.
