Yeah - I sorta realized it was *possible* (before Stewart sent along those instructions) - but highly ass-painly. I am lazy. But also picky - so, for example, I'd never just split tracks on a digitizled LP based on finding silences - and I'd edit the beginning of each track to the onset of sound. Which probably takes more time than your cut-n-paste-y goodness, yes - but I contradict myself very well I contrafuckingdict myself already. > Rex You know, if you ever played banjo in a sort of goofy, R-rated country parody band, your stage name could be "Dixie Rex"... - -- ...Jeff Norman The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.wordpress.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 20 Feb 2009 13:49:49 +1300 From: James Dignan Subject: Re: Fuckin' Awesome Band-Name I Just Thought Of >Got to tell you there's a Canadian group called The Arrogant Worms. I'm lazy enough that I usually just do this visually, based on the beginning of a waveform, so I sometimes unwittingly create "Part I"s and "Part 2"s. I have told the story about how my personal vinyl rip of Neil Young's never-issued-on-CD (and live) "Time Fades Away" was *recognized by iTunes/CDDB* the first time I loaded it up, right? Someone out there has mighty similar vinyl-ripping specs to myself, apparantly. > > You know, if you ever played banjo in a sort of goofy, R-rated country > parody band, your stage name could be "Dixie Rex"... Like a goofy country band doing a fair amount of parody material, including a song called "Asshole" and a version of "Lucille" containing the lyrical tweak "This time the herpes won't heal"? Banjo, no, but I've played bass in that band. Daddy sang not bass, but lead. - -Rex ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 19 Feb 2009 17:49:43 -0800 From: Rex Subject: Re: Fuckin' Awesome Band-Name I Just Thought Of On Thu, Feb 19, 2009 at 4:49 PM, James Dignan wrote: > (they even recorded a cover of it on their album "Finial dreams") > Album title of the year. Or, if you don't know his music, you might remember him as the white-haired troubadour in the recent film Rachel Getting Married. Hitchcock has been at it since the 1970s, when he cut records with his first band, The Soft Boys. Now well into his 50s, Hitchcock lets his dark undercurrent bubble closer to the surface of his songs, while his broad silliness has morphed into a subtler, more low-key sense of humor. "I think it's only a dark undercurrent if what's on the surface is bright," Hitchcock says. "If my stuff was very, very gloomy on the surface you'd probably find it hilarious underneath. ... It just sort of depends . doesn't it? . on what hits you first." Hitchcock has a new album out called Goodnight Oslo, featuring his longtime collaborators in The Venus 3: Peter Buck and Bill Rieflin of R.E.M., and Scott McCaughey of The Minus 5. Hitchcock recently sat down with music critic Christian Bordal to talk about it and play a couple of the new songs. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 19 Feb 2009 20:10:12 -0600 From: Steve Schiavo Subject: Re: wanted: file (rock) splitter (to god) On Feb 19, 2009, at 1:25 PM, 2fs wrote: > Sorry - just listening to the Wrens. > > Anyway: looking for a good, cheap-to-free app to split files into > tracks, such as digital recordings of albums, lvie shows, etc., - for > Mac.
