I was gonna say Steeley Dan is a good one for interlocking lead guitars too. And while were mentioning the Monochrome Set, I'll copy a post I recently made on a MSet/ Scarlet's Well forum, since there are at least 2 other Monochrome Set fans here: Below is a link to a mp3 of us playing with Bid for the 1st time on May 4 2004 in my basement. It's very raw with talking in between songs and us just generally trying to figure it all out. Remember, Nate, Jayant and myself had been practicing these songs since Feb without Bid, so we were all very nervous and excited at the same time. It is one of my most favorite memories ever. I like to think that some of the pre-Columbus magic was captured that night. Have a listen and see for yourself. This little medley of songs might end up as a bonus track on the next Unreal CD I'm working on (which will be heavy on MSet songs recorded with Bid around this time 4 or 5 years ago): http://www.sendspace.com/file/1axb2g - ------------------------------------ From: James Dignan * Some music I got from Nuppy: Fast piece of Furniture's "Adventures in contentment". They wear their influences on their sleeves at times (Stones, Lou, Byrds, Talking Heads, even a trace of Patti Smith), but blend them into a nice original whole. Oh, thank you for mentioning it James! I just ate some indian food with Jeff Nelson (and Tony Lowe) and he informs me that Dischord is re-issueing the Fast Piece Of Furniture album on gatefold vinyl. I'm very excited about this! - ------------------------------ I'd say my favorite 2008 release was Pacific 'Reveries' http://www.myspace.com/musicpacific and a close 2nd was Scarlet's Well 'Gatekeeper' -very much in the vein of old school Monochrome Set. Based on that recommendation I just DL'ed that episode - we'll see. But first I have to finish my Californication marathon - that's one of the funniest shows I've ever seen! Not every second is golden, but just about every episode has at least one scene that makes me laugh hysterically. I'm currently in the middle of season 2, so I'll definitely get to the other one over the weekend. There's just too much good TV these days. And then I also have to catch up with all the legendary old stuff I never (really) got to see, such as Hill Street Blues and NYPD Blue. - -- Sebastian Hagedorn Am alten Stellwerk 22, 50733 Kvln, Germany http://www.uni-koeln.de/~a0620/ "Being just contaminates the void" - Robyn Hitchcock ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 Jan 2009 14:34:13 -0500 From: "Bachman, Michael" Subject: RE: The Nightman Cometh - -----Original Message----- From: owner-fegmaniax@smoe.org [mailto:owner-fegmaniax@smoe.org] On Behalf Of Sebastian Hagedorn Sent: Friday, January 02, 2009 2:20 PM To: Bri N Cc: fegmaniax@smoe.org Subject: Re: The Nightman Cometh - -- Bri N is rumored to have mumbled on 2. I just finished watching the last episodes of season 1 of Californication on DVD a couple of weeks ago. It's my current favorite show, so I heartily agree with Sebastian! I missed most of season 2 before I subscribed to Showtime however. I'll check out "The Nightman Cometh" for sure. Michael B. Gloriously sick shit. The last two seasons have been kinda erratic, though "The Nightman Cometh" was great, though I think "Paddy's Pub: The Worst Bar in Philadelphia" was my favorite of the season ("Who Pooped the bed?: the week before on the other hand, was execrable). Since this aired a month ago, I guess you're getting caught up with TiVo? :) (I still have half the season of Dexter to get to, so I'm not much better; it's much easier with the number of shows I want to bother with drifting smaller and smaller though.) I saw the first episode and really HATED it; does it get better or does Duchovny just rub me the wrong way too much for me to not keep rooting for him to get run over by a steamroller? ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 02 Jan 2009 22:05:41 +0100 From: Sebastian Hagedorn Subject: RE: The Nightman Cometh - -- Jeff Dwarf is rumored to have mumbled on 2. Perhaps. I guess the show stands and falls with someone's attitude towards him - and I mean both the actor and the role. I loved him on the X-Files and I'm loving him here. Unfortunately(?) he's almost 100% percent the opposite of me, but that doesn't keep me from enjoying his (mis-)adventures vicariously. Anyway, if you didn't enjoy the pilot, I doubt you'd enjoy the rest. - -- Sebastian Hagedorn Am alten Stellwerk 22, 50733 Kvln, Germany http://www.uni-koeln.de/~a0620/ "Being just contaminates the void" - Robyn Hitchcock ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 Jan 2009 16:28:33 -0500 From: "Bachman, Michael" Subject: RE: The Nightman Cometh - -----Original Message----- From: owner-fegmaniax@smoe.org [mailto:owner-fegmaniax@smoe.org] On Behalf Of Sebastian Hagedorn Sent: Friday, January 02, 2009 4:06 PM To: Jeff Dwarf Cc: Kentucky Fried Jesus Christ Subject: RE: The Nightman Cometh - -- Jeff Dwarf is rumored to have mumbled on 2. Anyway, if you didn't enjoy the >pilot, I doubt you'd enjoy the rest. Duchovny seems to be revitalized with Califorication. The last year or so of the X-Files that he was a regular in he almost looked bored in some of the episodes, although that could be related to some of the weaker scripts in seasons 6 and 7. I also like this years X-Files movie a ton. Using the old Vancouver locations, crew and extras helped the movie recapture the edginess and "creep out factor" that the first five seasons had. I thought the Philadelphia thing had been pulled. It must not be real heavily promoted. I definitely got a howl out of the early ones I actually saw.
