Enya is fantastic for putting kids to sleep. There's an Enya concert at our house every night between 7 and 8. I think she has a new album out now, actually. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 Dec 2008 07:52:20 -0800 From: Rex Subject: Re: Okay, I'm not going to say I've been losing any sleep over this... What was the deal with the tour? When I first heard it was impending, Eno was going to be along, but I haven't heard whether he actually materialized. John Zorn's Secret Chiefs 3, "Xaphan: Book of Angels vol. 9" Love love love love love this. Seriously, the middle-eastern flavor SC3 brings in just does it for me. (Plus, I've spoken with Shazahd Ismaily (sp?) a couple times, and he's an incredibly nice wackaloon, genuinely hilarious to talk to; we shared information on growing breakfast cereals in one's home garden.) My gripe, despite always digging Zorn's label's artistic packaging choices, is: Come on, what's it with the plain-colored CDs with almost no discernible identification on 'em? Plain green, with one little glyph near the hub which only on close, glasses-off-and-in-good-light-and-allowing-the-40-year-old-eyes-to-acclimate-for-several-seconds inspection finally gives up the secret that there's a little "9" in the middle of the little design. Some of us (well, one of me, at least) still slides an armload of CDs at a time into a 400-disc changer, and really gets annoyed at being arsed to re-match the plain discs with their cases, even in sequence. Favorite musical discovery of the year: Wussy. Yeah, the CDs are a couple years old, but I'd for some reason never glommed ahold of this, former Ass Pony Chuck Cleaver's current act. Just killer. He has such a way with grabbing a thought and succinctly making it concrete with a few perfect words. Yellow cotton dress, Is beautiful no doubt. But it becomes a Motherfucker. I didn't think it was just new band names as such. Anyway: two Milwaukee acts (at least) made the list, and the first one isn't bad at all but genius: E = MC Hammer. The other is just obscure: White, Wrench, Conservatory. Not obscure if you played "Clue" as a kid, though. - -- ...Jeff Norman The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 Dec 2008 11:59:40 -0600 From: 2fs Subject: Re: Okay, I'm not going to say I've been losing any sleep over this...
