They kicked ass all over the place, and we've recently learned that some of their material has surfaced on CD. Bittersweet, I admit - it was the last of the Buffyverse I had not seen. But wow. It is so much deeper than I expected. I've preferred Angel all along, found it funnier, darker, deeper in many ways, the grown up side of Buffy, but this is getting good. The Spike/Angel stuff is really working. And Team Angel are trying so damn hard. I'm only on disc 3 but I just had to comment. Death Cab for Cutie/Narrow Stairs > 5. Stereolab/Chemical Chords > 6. Flight of the Conchords > 7. Robert Forster/The Evangelist > 8. The Futureheads/This is Not the World > 9. TV on the Radio/Dear Science > 10. David Byrne & Brian Eno/Everything That Happens Will Happen Today > That looks like a fine list. I've got most of those albums, but I have to say that the only one that I have listened to sufficiently to be able to form a real opion is the Robert Forster one. Didn't like it first, but it grew on me. Anyway, here are the 10 albums that I perhaps liked most this year in alphabetical order: Belle & Sebastian - The BBC Sessions British Sea Power - Do You Like Rock Music? Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes Foals - Antidotes Robert Forster - The Evangelist Juliana Hatfield - How To Walk Away Joan As Police Woman - To Survive Kings Of Leon - Only By The Night Aimee Mann - Smilers R.E.M. - Accelerate Notable mentions: Cat Power - Jukebox (haven't listened to enough) Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Dig!!! Lazarus Dig!!! (same) Coldplay - Viva La Vida (a step in the right direction) Elvis Costello & The Imposters - Momofuku Death Cab For Cutie - Narrow Stairs Joe Jackson - Rain (I really like "Invisible Man") John Mellencamp - Life, Death, Love, And Freedom Oasis - Dig Out Your Soul (better than expected) Okkervil River - The Stand Ins Portishead - Third Stereolab - Chemical Chords (not sure how I feel about that one) Matthew Sweet - Sunshine Lies - -- Sebastian Hagedorn Am alten Stellwerk 22, 50733 Kvln, Germany http://www.uni-koeln.de/~a0620/ "Being just contaminates the void" - Robyn Hitchcock ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 Dec 2008 22:18:13 -0800 From: Rex Subject: Re: Itchy and Fluffy On Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 5:09 AM, Steve Schiavo wrote: > > > Wow.
