B His last one is a bit sleepy, but it's always a good listen. His acoustic CD Surf has some great moments. B Highly recommended! B - - -Blatzy * Thanks! I noted that 'North Star' was the best song he performed all night apart from 'Oblivious' which he saved (surprise surprise) for an encore. Roddy Frame is basically a ragtime guitar stylist, but with some really unexpected chord changes where one is mentally expecting the standard 'Alice's Restaurant'-type sequence. On the first song he played with a harmonica harness as well as guitar to a rather 'Mr Bojangles'-ish tune called something like 'Just me and you'. Then 'Cruising Newbury Street' (can't read my scribble notes here); one about a procession of blonde children with one black one; North Star; 'I'm half lost'?. He was apologetic about not being a comedian, and said 'I understand that you will be getting all kinds of stand-up comedians coming here in future', but didn't look at all enthusiastic about that prospect himself. 'It's a dreckit night out there'. He had an energetic roadie who kept him supplied with different acoustic guitars, including one twelve-string. The only problems were (1) when he put the harmonica holder on again and found that the capo was one fret higher than the harmonica tuning and (2) when a volume knob dropped off one of the guitars - otherwise the show was strikingly professional - no missed chords, no forgotten words as far as I could tell. He had a charming habit of tacking one verse of some well-known song on the end of some of the later numbers. 'I can hear music' on the end of one, 'People get ready' on the end of one called 'Tears of a woman' possibly, and most unexpected for me 'It's alright Ma, I'm only bleeding' at the end of a rag which mentioned a Pakamac . He performed a new song about St Swithin's Day called '40 days and 40 nights'. He mentioned one Aztec Camera gig where he had worn red plastic sandals, pink socks and a Phil Oakey haircut. The keyboard player was having amphetamine psychosis and the promoter said that their songs were too depressing. Other song titles and lyrics included: 'Bigger, brighter, better' 'The bugle sounds again' 'Just close your eyes again' 'Sack the world and make a new start' 'Walk to winter' (everybody except me sang along with this one) 'Oblivious' 'Hymn to Grace' I left to catch my last bus after he had been on stage for about 75 minutes. Anyway, definitely worth catching - - Mike Godwin ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 15 Nov 2008 12:25:27 EST From: HwyCDRrev@aol.com Subject: New York Dolls Reunite With Todd Rundgren for Album New York Dolls Reunite With Todd Rundgren for Album Photo by Marty Temme For the first time since their 1973 eponymous debut, glam/proto-punk legends New York Dolls are teaming up with producer Todd Rundgren.
