Disappointed that he didn't yell out "Hello Victoria!". Barbara Soutar Victoria, BC "Dylan goes knock, knock, knockin' on Neil's door" ZOSIA BIELSKI From Wednesday's Globe and Mail November 12, 2008 at 4:03 AM EST Unshaven, wearing a tuque and sporting black leather pants and motorcycle boots, Bob Dylan did not introduce himself when he paid a Winnipeg family a surprise visit 10 days ago. John Kiernan and Patti Regan are accustomed to visitors - they live in Neil Young's former home on Grosvenor Avenue. Kiernan and Regan, who work for the city, had returned from grocery shopping to find two men standing on the sidewalk, a taxi stopped nearby. Regan assumed it was a couple of aging Young fans and chatted them up while Kiernan went into the house to unload the groceries. Finished, he went back outside. "I was thinking I gotta do laundry, I gotta rake leaves: it's Sunday afternoon. I'm thinking this guy has great boots on. ... I look at him and go, 'Oh my God. We're talking to Bob Dylan.' At which point, I said, 'Do you want to come in and see the house?'" Dylan accepted and Kiernan took him upstairs to Young's old bedroom, now painted bright pink for the couple's 16-year-old daughter. Dylan contemplated Young listening to music in the room and asked about the laneway, the garage and the view, 500 kilometres northwest of Dylan's own early home in Hibbing, Minn. Although Kiernan called him Bob, Dylan did not formally acknowledge his celebrity status. On the way out, he asked to see the kitchen, now the family laundry room. "That's where it got really surreal. I'm standing in my laundry with Bob Dylan with all the dirty clothes." Regan was oblivious throughout the entire exchange, which lasted 25 minutes. Kiernan told her after the cab pulled away, and she ran screaming to the neighbours. The couple did not get an autograph. "It was a wonderful intersection in our lives." http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20081112.wdylan12/BNStory/Entertainment/home ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Nov 2008 12:07:17 EST From: HwyCDRrev@aol.com Subject: Re: un REAP doubt it -his recent records sold plenty maybe his buddies need $ ? or maybe he's trying to make a record where he'd actually have some creative input my blog is "Yer Blog" http://fab4yerblog.blogspot.com/ http://robotsarestealingmyluggage.blogspot.com/ In a message dated 11/13/2008 11:57:11 A.M. Wish I could catch the LA show tonight and see what the larger Largo venue is like. Still, I'm really going to miss seeing Robyn and everyone else all crammed onto that tiny stage. I went with some friends (one Feg, 2 non but fans of Robyn) and met up with several list members at a pub and more at the show. Off the top of my head, at the risk of leaving anyone out, there were Tom Clark, Carrie, Glen Uber, Nick W., and Chris Frantz (good to see you again, dude--it's been too long). There were a few other people that would probably have known, if I caught their names, but I'm a bit bad about going back and asking, "Who are you?". There was also an imposter Sebastian, but I knew from photos I've seen that this guy wasn't the real deal. A nice enough guy all the same. The show was extremely good--Robyn was sounding great, and Terry and Tim were excellent support as expected. It could have been longer, as always, but that is a weak gripe. You'll get more complete reports from other people, but I will say that you should watch for Robyn's new electric guitar--it is totally suited to him (guess). Marc The "impostor Sebastian," good name! I'll have to start calling him that. The guitar rocks! Tom got a couple of photos - would love to see them posted somewhere. It was indeed a lovely evening and Robyn was in fine form. His voice was strong and his energy seemed the usual - boundless - as he bopped around the stage. From the opening (always beautiful) rendition of "Flavour of Night" to his playing "Ghost Ship" (a personal fave) during the encore. In particular was the great acappella version of "Uncorrected Personality Traits." And I liked how he got "Sometimes I wish I was a Pretty Girl" out of the way right off the bat. Overall a beautiful, meloncholic, autumnal and, yes, funny evening with Robyn and fellow Fegs! So nice to see you all and meet more! That is always the big treat of a Robyn show. Obvious omission of "Furry Green Atom Bowl" however. Oh, and Fuck You Tom Clark! - - c "All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent. Some nice ideas, but for the interim there are more fuel efficient tranistion engines coming on line next year from Ford called EcoBoost that will probably power my next vehicle. The 4 cylinder single turbo and V-6 twin tubo engines have no upper or lower intake manifolds and have gas directed directly into the cylinder like a diesel. They have cylinder shut down technology and get 15% better fuel economy and 10% less emissions then the current 4 cylinder and V-6. This family of engines will carry Ford into the future until the next generation of truly green powerplants become available. I've always wondered why his plan didn't include converting oil-heated houses to gas heat. Seems to me that would be a much quicker and cheaper conversion than switching cars and trucks to CNG, so his plan would start reducing oil consumption (and enriching NG producers) even before those CNG vehicles hit the road. Plus it would help keep people from freezing to death next time oil hits $150/bbl. But maybe Pickens figured that wouldn't capture the public imagination -- Americans luuuuuv their cars but don't usually think about their furnaces. - --Chris ______________________________________________________________________ Christopher Gross On the Internet, nobody knows I'm a dog. chrisg@gwu.edu ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 14 Nov 2008 09:25:59 -0800 From: Carrie Galbraith Subject: Re: a somewhat RH-related question On Nov 14, 2008, at 8:58 AM, Christopher Gross wrote: > Is anyone going to the show in Alexandria, VA next Tuesday?
