So many people I know worked so hard for this and so many people i know got married. We always knew it would be close as there are so many parts of the state where we don't have support. I'm angry that the lies the opposition was using, about teaching children gay marriage in school and that churches would lose their non profit status, worked. We watched the returns at the No on Prop 8 viewing party which was in same hotel as the democrats (SF) and the No on Prop 4(parental notification of abortion). Instead of watching the returns (I couldn't - at least not without a bag for the hyperventilation), I met with my logic teacher and pestered him with questions about my work, and then non-monotonic logic, and then Wittgenstein. It was 11:30pm when I left campus, and I had a text message from J. that sounded remarkably...happy. and certain. I can't remember if I teared up or said a few yippes in the parking lot. I was so very elated about Obama's victory (although, secretly, I was also rather in shock by being confronting with the fact that it *is* possible for me to overestimate the stupidity of the American public.) So aside from all the Big Stuff, this will be another reason that I'm looking forward to the NYC RH show.
