Digging up some info, I found this feg digest from January of 1996: < http://www.fegmania.org/archives/fegmaniax/1996/v04.n015> This came up in a search I did trying to source the Was (Not Was) quote I used to use a zillion years ago as a .sig file ("the man likes milk...now he owns a million cows"). Near the bottom is a post from a "Eugene B. Mirman," at the time at Hampshire College, featuring an Emo Phillips signature line... I don't think anyone had heard of him at the time. Kinda weird to run across an old fegpost from a guy I've seen on DVDs (mostly as the landlord on _Flight of the Conchords_...) So who else has posted here before people had heard of them? I mean, I already know about the Barack Obama posts, and the vicious flame wars he and Ferris had back in the day - but anyone else? PS to younger fegs: did you know that the internet had been invented in 1996? It's true: after my generation invented the wheel, we figured damn, better put together this internet thing. So we sent a Pony Express message to Al Gore (which was difficult: the first two were delivered to a block of wood accidentally - those ponies were none too smart) and had him put an internet together using baling wire, a few discarded tins of beans, and the carburetor from a 1975 Buick LeSabre. It used to run on steam and occasionally (for AOL) treadle power, but it still worked. 8 kbps, but still. - -- ...Jeff Norman The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com - -- ...Jeff Norman The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 25 Oct 2008 01:59:57 -0400 From: "(0% rh)" Subject: Re: Fegs who later became famous... jeff 2fs says: > Digging up some info, I found this feg digest from January of 1996: < > http://www.fegmania.org/archives/fegmaniax/1996/v04.n015> 1996...so i guess i was wrong about 2fs being a reference to "One L"? as ever, lauren - -- "people with opinions just go around bothering one another." -- the buddha ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 25 Oct 2008 01:05:20 -0700 (PDT) From: "C. I've been feeling frustrated for a long time about my inability to hook up successfully IRL with people who want to make a band, I thought maybe cyberspace was the way to go. Even more interesting is the outtakes to the outtakes from _Take No Prisoners_ - wherein Lou just wired a recording device directly to his brain, and whatever half-formed thought happened to dribble out through his drug-addled haze got recorded and released in this form. Oh wait - that's _Take No Prisoners_ itself. - -- ...Jeff Norman The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 25 Oct 2008 21:34:59 -0700 From: Rex Subject: Re: Two unrelated and off-topic questions (with bonus RH ref) On Sat, Oct 25, 2008 at 9:28 AM, Jeremy Osner wrote: > > (2) I'm thinking about putting a recording (which has yet to be made, > but is getting to where it's pretty well-realized in my head) on my > website with a note attached that would say I was looking for musical > collaborators. In the realm of the half-online, half-IRL (inasmuch as it's local), have you tried Craigslist? Link to a recording on your site from your ad. You generally do get results, of one kind or another. - -Rex ------------------------------ End of fegmaniax-digest V16 #760 ********************************
