No, I wouldn't say so. I'm saying the various perspectives Stipe sang from are more complex than is usually considered. and for a "PC" band >> they sure were/are interested in exploring the ugly side of >> things...Stipe quite often willing to sing in the character of a dickhead. >> > > I never even considered the possibility that he was drawing on his own > experience there. > Again, I'm not suggesting he is - only that he's exploring that sort of character, whether it's a part of his own or not. - -- ...Jeff Norman The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Sep 2008 07:59:25 -0700 (PDT) From: Poem Lover Subject: Re: attn: iTunes Windows experts I'm getting that stuttering, too! but I was getting it before 8.0 came out, I've been getting it with the one before. I installed 8.0 yesterday at home and won't be doing so at work. It seems like a marketing tool and nothing more, to me. I don't want to get recommendations from the itunes store! I haven't used it enough yet to have a real opinion, but the first songs I played all skipped and I don't know what that's happening. I wonder what's going on there. Me too. But none of the suggested fixes at the Firefox forums ("fora" if I want to be pretentious) did much good. So far I don't miss anything still using 2.x - eventually, I'm sure, some of the extensions & plugins might stop being supported.. Now yesterday, I download iTunes 8.0...and not only is it full of useless >> crap (i.e., "Genius"), >> > > I haven't yet made up my mind about that. Why do you think it's useless? Well, first it took for freakinever to load the first time (granted, it's trying to plow through 220GB library), and then once it did, half the tracks in the library generate a message to the effect that that track isn't yet present or included - and then when I do generate a playlist from it, it mostly gives me obvious choices, from my own collection. Actually the worst aspect of that is it doesn't seem to have a way to say, "only one track by any given artist" or any other sort of restriction...so if I choose a Wire song it (duh) includes a lot of Wire songs in the playlist. The iTunes Store suggestions are also pretty predictable... For me, its features just aren't useful. I don't care about it - but if it gums up the works, that's a problems. Apparently I can turn it off - don't know if that will change the way iTunes works (eliminate those glitches, say), but I'll try it. Craigie noted that SP3 corrected some problems - as it happens, I upgraded to that about ten minutes after I posted that last e-mail. I haven't tried ripping & playing simultaneously since then. I'm sure part of the problem is that I'm trying to rip from an external CD player *to* an external hard drive (via USB) and write info to a library that's pretty huge... - -- ...Jeff Norman The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Sep 2008 20:50:36 -0400 From: "(0% rh)" Subject: reap my mom, age 71, death by cancer. i was lucky to have known her, and luckier still to be her daughter. now comes that hard part: a life in the world without her. not sure what that's going to look like. as ever, lauren - -- "people with opinions just go around bothering one another." -- the buddha ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Sep 2008 23:57:18 -0700 From: Rex Subject: Somebody ring the Cheese Alarm... ...another musical artist of note has debuted a new song on the subject.
