When she spends money she's accountable for it. Oh - you mean the $20 million debt she left in a town of 7,500 or so? That accountability? Or as governor: "Accountable" how? She hasn't run for re-election yet...then, incumbents win races in this country at ridiculous rates, and when they belong to the party that's dominant in a region, they win even more often. Alaska is, of course, heavily Republican. She's *theoretically* accountable - but frankly, that theoreticality is no more or less theoretical than the fact that senators and representatives also run for re-election. The theory is that voters size up the candidates' achievements (in the case of incumbents), qualifications, rhetoric, personality, integrity, etc., and cast votes. I fail to see how a governor is more or less "accountable" than a senator or representative - it's unlikely that there's going to be a recall, for example (although possible, I think). Regardless: Obama has certainly accomplished a lot more in his 46 years than Palin has in her 44. - -- ...Jeff Norman The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 9 Sep 2008 22:23:13 -0400 From: "Stewart Russell" Subject: Re: McCain Moves Ahead of Obama in Poll 2008/9/9 FSThomas : > > While I don't know a lot about Palin I would trust her (or any state > Governor, for that matter) over Obama in that she's actually accountable for > her actions. You can say this after Bush has shit on the country for going on 8 years? Much is already there, but these sorts of discographies tend to improve when more experts pile on. I added a couple cover scans of cd singles (SoundUnwound seems to like 600 pixels x 600 pixels). And someone has been adding some of the more obscure titles already (like the Spectre promo). But come on around if you feel inclined to improve it some more. Thanks. (Details: WinXP SP2) Last week I upgraded to Firefox 3.0...and it was so slow, particularly on its initial open after startup, that I reverted back to vers. 2. Now yesterday, I download iTunes 8.0...and not only is it full of useless crap (i.e., "Genius"), it can no longer handle simultaneously playing music and ripping from CD. It periodically stutters as it plays. So I'm thinking of going back to vers. 7-something... In one of the iTunes discussion forums on the Apple site, someone posted a link to oldapps.com, which had 7.6-something for download. First question: should I trust that? I couldn't find a link to d/l 7.7 (the most recent pre-8 version) on the Apple site. Second: It would appear that I might run into trouble if I uninstall 8 and rollback to 7, although the forums have a workaround involving copying the iTunes Library.itl and Music Library.xml files, removing the ones set up by the rollback install, and editing the .itl and .xml files in a text editor so they reflect the correct version number ("7.6.2" say instead of "8.0") in one of the strings. That doesn't bother me...but the same forum item (it's on this page: < http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7577642>) says I should uninstall "iTunes, Quicktime, Bonjour, Mobile device support and Apple software updater". I'm wondering about the functionality, after all this, of AirPort Express. I'm also wondering, of course, whether all of the above is necessary or a good idea. I'm also thinking that if we weren't in the midst of remodeling our house (a/k/a Cash Suck), I'd be on my way to an Apple Store right now - more & more my laptop (several years old) is being quirky, and no way am I getting anything w/Vista on it. My own level of knowledge and time makes Linux seem like doing Bo Derek's hair every morning (w/o any possible side benefits thereof, if we mean the '70s Bo Derek of course). - -- ...Jeff Norman The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 10 Sep 2008 19:50:36 -0700 From: "Stacked Crooked" Subject: That's What *I'm* Talkin' About! from : >>The victims told deputies they awoke Saturday morning to the stranger applying spices to one of them and striking the other with an 8-inch sausage.<< ------------------------------ End of fegmaniax-digest V16 #706 ********************************
