From Dolby's blog - --- Matthew Seligman and Kevin Armstrong came to stay with me for a few days, and we routined some of my new songs. They sound AMAZING. What a delight to play with old friends. We understand each other so well. And theybve both kept their chops up over the years, ever since the early days of Local Heroes, Low Noise, and my first and second albums. When they came onstage with me at the Islington Academy last October, it felt like a reunion. The reaction was so warm and positive, it took me quite by surprise. Ibve played with many backing bands over the years but these two have a unique place in Dolby folklore. We worked over 5 songs and webre planning to record three of them in early September, with a drummer (as yet undecided.) - --- The post has some pictures, too. - -f. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 8 Aug 2008 09:32:54 -0400 From: "David Stovall" Subject: Re: Monster Mash! > From: "Jeremy Osner" > Subject: Re: Monster Mash! > > On Thu, Jul 31, 2008 at 11:29 AM, Stacked Crooked wrote: > > > > there're forty-eight of 'em at > > . > > > > If person or people start doing this, I will devote some effort to > building a database and a web interface for storing and viewing and > cross-referencing the transcriptions. I love this idea and this kind of project. If someone else is shouldering the more time-consuming tasks of the listening and the organizing and the transcribing and the documentation, I'd tentatively volunteer to help supply the materiil - I have a moderately heavy crapload of live recordings (a quick sorting of my spreadsheet sez 250+ RH projects/shows) that I could either a) burn in bunches to DVD-R in archival formats and mail to whomever, or b) torrent in a place accessible to same. Thing is, I DON'T have anything approaching a conversant knowledge of what's IN each show, so it'd help immensely if whoever's doing the organizing or listening parts could also do the figuring-out-or-at-least-guessing-which-shows-are-needed part and just request by date. I can easily supply a list of what I have, mostly dated (and I'll figure out as many of the dates not yet listed in my spreadsheet; just hafta dig around on the archival backups or offline hard drives [Unconnected Digitality Plates? Unconnected Data-collecty Plates?] for info files, etc. - and any extra push to make my records more complete is a welcome encouragement,..). da9ve ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 8 Aug 2008 09:40:30 EDT From: HwyCDRrev@aol.com Subject: newport folk festival on NPR - listen - gillian welch +more http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=92834404 my blog is "Yer Blog" http://fab4yerblog.blogspot.com/ http://robotsarestealingmyluggage.blogspot.com/ **************Looking for a car that's sporty, fun and fits in your budget? Which ones? For Soft Boys material: Old Pervert (for the sorta-Beefhearty beat) Insanely Jealous (even though everything ELSE in the song tries to obscure the rhythm/percussion track) and, maybe,.... You'll Have To Go Sideways, or maybe Queen of Eyes, or Tonight, or Anglepoise Lamp, or Wading Through a Ventilator, or Yodelling Hoover, or something else fairly straight ahead but propulsive. Last week I'm having lunch with a co-worker and his iPhone starts ringing. His ringtone is the version of "Funkytown" from the "Towlie" South Park episode - very funny. Then last Sunday I'm playing "Rayman Raving Rabbids" on the Wii with my daughter and we hit a point where we unlock a new song to play along with (ala Guitar Hero/Dance Dance...). It's "Funkytown". I kicked her ass, btw. Then this morning I'm driving to work and I switch on the CD changer to Robyn's "Naff Hits of The 70's" show and sure enough it's right at the point where "Funkytown" starts. Finally, a few minutes ago I'm cleaning my office a little and I come across my still unopened "Obliteration Pie" and decide to finally give it a spin. Yeah - there it is: Track 12. Not to mention that the song always reminds me of the time I was too naive to recognize a subtle invitation to a 3-way with my then GF and her smokin' hot friend back in 1980.
