PLAYED A SHOW! No new songs. I call it a draw for now. MBV has been supposedly sitting on an album's worth of material for longer, but none of it has leaked. What's really gonna fuck people up is when GNR and MBV start cranking out the records... because, to average things out, Bob Pollard and Mark E. Smith are going to be sent to Guantanamo Bay to prevent any releases for what the Bush administration calls "an indefinite period". Turns out you can be sent there just for being a prole art threat or associating with the Teenage FBI. Less is more. some thin line pastel markers seems to be doing okay for me right now. and i often just put two vertical marks on the margin instead of underlining, especially if i just have a pencil handy. as an aside, over the years, it has gotten more difficult for me to think without holding a pencil. it doesn't make much sense -- unless i'm reading or figurin', i rarely need a pencil to help me -- but, regardless, it seems to bring a sort of clarity. maybe it's like getting to hold the talking stick? I lost sight of The Egyptians after the 'Sleeping With Your Devil Mask' period - presumably they were working on cracking North America most of the time. But I always enjoyed 'Respect' - too bad they broke up after (or possibly during) it. * I thought that the version of 'Airscape' on this performance was a bit OTT apart from the quiet bit, though he managed to hit the top note at the end. Any suggestions about best performances of 'Airscape'? The best performance I ever saw of 'Arms of Love' was during one of those Isle of Wight jaunts. - - Mike Godwin PS Celine Dion is responsible for the world's worst cover song, according to a survey for a Bath magazine. There was a reason for that, but one I don't entirely remember. Something like a family feud splitting a company, and perhaps something to do with the region's journeyman's regulations. I still have one old Dixon Ticonderoga pencil that is grade 3 HARD. I don't know if they are made anymore, but Ticonderogas were great pencils back in the day. I have a 15 or so year old Faber-Castell stapler that I use at work. It's stamped MADE IN SWEDEN on the inside, and on the bottom plastic portion, DESIGNED AND MANUFACTURED BY ISABERG AB HESTERA. "cassandra's dream" was kind of unusual, i think, in that it was about two male characters. there were female characters, but they were definitely secondary. maybe i'm misremembering, but don't woody allen's movies almost always at least one female in the lead? one last note about the movie - i do really love the title of it (they sometimes called me cassandra at my last job, reportedly because of my pessimism, but i think it was *their* lack of realism.) - -- "people with opinions just go around bothering one another." -- the buddha ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Jun 2008 20:02:04 -0700 From: "kevin studyvin" Subject: Re: from the wang dang pig dept [0% RH] > i think whoever made "helvetica" needs to make "pencil." > Beware - you could be wishing another comic sans on the world! > > > "cassandra's dream" was kind of unusual, i think, in that it was about > two male characters. there were female characters, but they were > definitely secondary. maybe i'm misremembering, but don't woody > allen's movies almost always at least one female in the lead? > I'm having trouble coming to terms with Woody Allen making movies that don't co-star New York City. > > one last note about the movie - i do really love the title of it (they > sometimes called me cassandra at my last job, reportedly because of my > pessimism, but i think it was *their* lack of realism.) > You've reminded me of a Tuxedomoon song about Cassandra, but it was off an LP I unloaded long ago.
