Therefore, with fair warning, the monkeyshines didn't bug as much as I'd feared. Not too interested in Iron Man, really. I did read and admire the comic when I was a kid, but now that they seem to have dialed in a way to make consistenty proficient comic book movies, the thrill is gone. I cut out after the second X-Men, only saw the first Spidey, haven't bothered with the Batman or Superman reboots (I was mostly a Marvel kid) and haven't seen any of the others at all. But for some reason I still follow up on the actual movie series that I loved as a kid, even though I'm sure some of them are lamer than the good comic movies. Something about the sense-memory of seeing these things in theatres as opposed to reading them on my bed with a bag of Tostitos or whatever. - -Rex ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 2 Jun 2008 04:02:14 +0930 From: Ken Lewig Subject: Ken Lewig is out of the office. Speaking as someone who was also a Marvel kid, I have to wonder who the genius was who cast Jessica Alba as Sue Storm. You couldn't have made a worse choice if you were actually trying to. Not that I have anything against the Alba per se, but jeeziz. Susan Storm is like, an uber-WASP, not to mention the obvious disparity in age. Of course that's only one of the reasons I've avoided the FF movies, but it's definitely the main one. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 1 Jun 2008 19:27:56 +0000 From: Michael Sweeney Subject: Re: Indy rock I liked it just fine me ownself too...from the sec the LucasFilm logo turned gold, then the same old Paramount logo gag unfolded (with a twist), we were hooked. Ah, that makes sense. While I'm sure it'll be good, I think one solid show from either of those tours would be a little bit more exciting than a mix 'n' match, if only because it would be sort of like getting a whole new "Gotta Let This Hen Out" along with the original one. I have yet to ask my brother, who was the real FF fan back in the day, what he makes of the films. Another thing that probably dampens my enthusuiasm for these films is having girls girls girls for children. They are just fine with picking up the torch for old film franchises, but don't read a lot of comic books (or, in the particular case of my kids, any). My stepdaughter loved Indy. My older biodaughter doesn't want to see it because of the guns, but she's the real Star Wars enthusiast (so I guess laser guns are fine). The five-year-old doesn't like anything that doesn't have fairies, so it's kind of a moot point. - -Rex ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 1 Jun 2008 15:32:13 -0700 From: Rex Subject: Re: Indy rock On Sun, Jun 1, 2008 at 12:27 PM, Michael Sweeney wrote: > I liked it just fine me ownself too...from the sec the LucasFilm logo > turned > gold, From the row behind us, I heard, a dad say, "No, it's not Star Wars" to his kid when the LFL logo came on. Since I uploaded the 3/13 and 3/14 (early) shows & woj was nice enough to share his 3/12 recording as well as danlych directing us to his 3/14 (late) show recording here: http://www.archive.org/details/RobynHitchcock1997-03-14.CoreSoundCards I thought I would go ahead and continue with this run of shows. This was more of an all request show than the earlier one (I think). But we saw Sex and the City yesterday and Iron Man a few weeks ago, and both those were better. So, bottom line was IMHO it was good, but there are other movies out there that are better. I will see SATC again in the theaters. I'll wait for DVD to see Indie again. ea On Jun 1, 2008, at 11:38 AM, Rex wrote: > On Sun, Jun 1, 2008 at 9:32 AM, m swedene wrote: > >> the moment the new indy went off track for me was the monkeys.I >> have still >> seen it three times, as it is what it is. >> a nice nostalgic trip with old friends. >> > > I think I spoiled myself just the right amount on this one, by > listening > almost exclusively to the things that really pissed people off. > Therefore, > with fair warning, the monkeyshines didn't bug as much as I'd feared. > > Not too interested in Iron Man, really.
