Huh, didn't know that...but looking at pictures, definitely not. Good guess though. I can't imagine that this results from some person inanely inputting "192" in the BPM field for CD after CD...so I conclude it's a weirdo quirk in iTunes. Maybe! B-52s, *Funplex* ~ holy moly! this is fuckin' *great*. was not expecting this at all. ...and the title couldn't be more apt (unless, i suppose, they'd titled it *Get Up On The Motherfuckin' Dance Floor, Beeyatch!*). The Breeders, *Mountain Battles* ~ i guess i'm the only sumbitch on earth who can't stand this, *at all*? i'll try it again in a few months' time, i suppose. The Dirtbombs, *We Have You Surrounded* ~ this year is kicking my fucking ass in! The Dodos, *Visiter* ~ this album will finish in my top-twenty. or if it *doesn't*, that'll have meant that it was an even greater bang-up year than it looks to be shaping up to've been. Elf-Power, *In A Cave* ~ has its moments. but on the whole, definitely nothing to write home about. The Foals, *Antidotes* ~ right now, this is my second-favourite record of the year...and i'd not be terribly surprised if it were still the case upon our reaching of 01/01/09. make sure to download the two-disc edition. *Colin Meloy Sings Live!* ~ not perfection...but not *too* far from it. actually, it *would've* been great for an acoustic "Crane Wife" cycle to've been included -- but i've got to believe he'll pull that one out during his upcoming solo tour. The Raconteurs - *Consolers Of The Lonely* ~ one of these days, i'm just going to have to acknowledge to myself that i don't "get" jack white; and move on with my life. ...frickin' 75 hours! It's gotta be up there with the longest time between releases from a band with the same lineup (loss of Ricky notwithstanding). Individuals can beat this easily, though - some of the old blues and folk guys recorded in the late 1920s reappeared in the 1960s. (and yeah, there's always Vashti Bunyan ...) I've noticed that in a lot of downloaded mp3s lately. The strange thing is that the BPM field always stays blank when I rip my own CDs using iTunes. My theory is that there is some other CD-ripping program out there that allows you to set the BPM manually, and 192 is a default value that no one ever changes. Speaking of downloading album artwork: how many of you have had iTunes' "get album artwork" function download the *wrong* art? I've seen it happen numerous times. One example was Joy Divion's Closer, which ended up with the cover of the Heart & Soul box set. Mind you, errors here are a lot less common than in CDDB's track listings.... - --Chris ______________________________________________________________________ Christopher Gross On the Internet, nobody knows I'm a dog. chrisg@gwu.edu ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 6 Apr 2008 19:55:41 -0500 From: 2fs Subject: Re: yet more iTunes bizarreness On 4/6/08, Christopher Gross wrote: > > On Sun, 6 Apr 2008, 2fs wrote: > > > For some reason, periodically I'll notice that *entire CDs* are listed > as > > having the same BPM...and it's always the same number of beats: 192. > > > > I can't imagine that this results from some person inanely inputting > "192" > > in the BPM field for CD after CD...so I conclude it's a weirdo quirk in > > iTunes. > > > > Anyone else run into this? > > > I've noticed that in a lot of downloaded mp3s lately. Could be...except this is happening with CDs I rip myself, and with iTunes as the ripper. Mind you, errors here are > a lot less common than in CDDB's track listings.... Yeah, that's pretty funny. Not sure where that comes from. Sometimes it's understandable - iTunes thinks the band The Caribbean is the same thing as a compilation of Caribbean music - other times...it's just bizarre. Recently something came up - looked like a collection of Ethiopian pop music or something - on an album by Tommy Keene or someone. The connection is obvious - since Keene's notorious for his love of doro wat. - -- ...Jeff Norman The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 6 Apr 2008 19:43:55 -0700 From: Rex Subject: Re: reap spoiler spoiler last chance to look away from thread title charlton heston On Sat, Apr 5, 2008 at 10:09 PM, (0% rh) wrote: > charlton heston, actor, gun owner, 84 > Quick, now's our chance to pry that gun from his cold, dead hand!
