Mind you, I wouldn't bet against Clooney entering politics at some point, and some of the Hollywood liberals are actually finding more effective ways to do things outside the political arena, e.g., Ed Norton's sustainable energy work. And let's face it, by making movies which are left-leaning, perople like Robbins, Strathairn et al are probably doing more for "the cause" and leaving the political careers to the actual politicians. >I remain perplexed that any conservatives like any rock and roll. DiCaprio, too. Clooney in particular talks openly about how he knows that the Hollywood endorsements often do more harm than good, so he tries to use his leverage in less overt ways. I doubt he'll ever run. People used to always dog Will Smith about running for office, too, but right now he's probably just pissed that he's too old to play Obama in the inevitable biopic. - -Rex ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 29 Feb 2008 10:46:35 -0800 From: Rex Subject: So... ...is it so quiet because this is, like, a fake day or something? Finally started listening to Shadow!Cat this morning. Interesting in that it seems like the first "real" odds 'n' sods since the now-retconned-out-of-existence "Invisible Hitchcock" (both Y&O and Luxor have much more unified feels than either, and I'm not counting "Thatcher" as its own entity as of yet). Enjoyable so far... "Debbie Reynolds" is an interesting idea, but the chords sound exactly like "Queen Elvis", maybe capo'ed up a few frets. More later. - -Rex ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 29 Feb 2008 14:04:33 -0500 From: "m swedene" Subject: Re: So... i just picked this up off eMusic. i need to listen to it this weekend. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 29 Feb 2008 11:18:49 -0800 From: "kevin studyvin" Subject: in other news So I have PiL's Second Edition going here 'cause I can't get enough of that insect disco sound and I'm wondering if anybody out there is familiar with the original Metal Box and has any light to shed on differences in the sound of the two versions, which I understand are pretty significant...? ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 29 Feb 2008 12:16:01 -0800 From: Rex Subject: Re: in other news On Fri, Feb 29, 2008 at 11:18 AM, kevin studyvin wrote: > So I have PiL's Second Edition going here 'cause I can't get enough of > that > insect disco sound and I'm wondering if anybody out there is familiar with > the original Metal Box and has any light to shed on differences in the > sound > of the two versions, which I understand are pretty significant...? There actually is a CD issue of it: http://www.amazon.com/Metal-Box-Public-Image-Limited/dp/B000007UDQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1204316001&sr=1-1 Not as outlandishly priced as I might have feared, although I didn't trudge through the comments to see how faithfiully the original product was replicated.
