Alright Yeah through Goodnight Oslo (a new one) featured Sean Nelson on harmonies. Venus 3 on all the rest. Robyn stopped Swirling mid-song to tell some guy to stop whatever it was he was doing, when he plays the acoustic it is really hard to concentrate. I've no idea if "Sixteen Years" is the name of the song (another new one), but Take It Away had quite a good groove to it. It was really a beautiful setlist -- there was no trying to fit in all the hits, it felt really natural. The encore was Heroin which segued into The End. I don't think the Venus 3 had any idea what was going to happen, 'specially when Robyn kept going after Heroin ended. But Peter Buck had a big ole smile on his face, and so did I. While I didn't > think it was Herzog's best work, I didn't quite think it was...funny. a bit after i made the post, i rather wished i hadn't, because i realized it might be offensive to some people. the first time i saw the movie, i saw it more as a very interesting character study with a lot of unintentional humour in it. this viewing, my reaction was quite different, and a lot of it was an "emporer's new clothes" kind of feeling. i did feel bad for laughing so much, but, at the same time, i'm sort of appalled that the movie was even made, and that it was so well received. regardless, i don't have go broadcasting all my thoughts, and i do apologize if i offended you or anyone else. i should have thought twice before writing the post. > And, accent aside, Herzog's English is really wonderful. Would that even a > tiny percentage of Americans could master a foreign language as well as he > has. i *really* meant no affront to herzog's english. i have a *lot* of respect for anyone who masters a second (or, hell, even a first) language. my comment was really that i thought herzog's narration added an element of bizarreness to an already bizarre movie. i mean, as mr. treadwell's almost in tears after finding a dead fox, and herzog starts chiming in with his personal views about the universe being chaos, hostility and murder. i will admit to be guilty of a prejudice that i think anything sounds more serious when said in german, and that was what i referring to. as ever, lauren p.s. soon up: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0200849/ - -- - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "People with opinions just go around bothering one another." - The Buddha ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 2 Dec 2007 21:25:11 -0500 From: lep Subject: Re: casting call 2fs says: > Okay, so if we were remaking "The Honeymooners" with sorta avant-garde rock > guys, obviously Pere Ubu's David Thomas would play the Jackie Gleason role. > > So - going by physical type and impression - which avant-garde rock guy > would play the Art Carney/Ed Norton role? That sounds like a perfect holiday movie choice. I did however see Beowulf (3D) and the scene where he is prancing around the hall in the altogether, his (animated) bits decorously hidden behind, oh, a candle, a wine goblet, a sword hilt, was so Austin Powers-ish that I got a serious case of the giggles, which returned when fashion-forward Grendel's MILF emerged in nothing but gold paint and *stiletto heels*. It would have been so much cooler if her feet had just been at a high heel angle - it's not like she needs support for drifting around, and it might even have been a little creepy. Grendel and the dragon rocked though. Jeanne ------------------------------ End of fegmaniax-digest V16 #417 ********************************
