It's time to revive of the Buffy Thread. (oh, I have no judgment about what's a spoiler, so here's some space:) v v v v v v (Rex, Sweeney: why are you still reading?) v v okay, I wanted to post about a week or two ago, but I was busy, then sick, blah blah blah. The week of midterms I finished watching Angel Season 3. There was one night where I went on a bit of a bender, stayed up until 5:30am finishing the season, and then when I slept, I had weird dreams because there was just something so intense about the ending of the season. Part of it was just my mood I'm sure, with midterms and lack of sleep, but the next day, it was sort of hanging over me - I even had some weird, creepy dreams related to Angel and the bottom of the ocean. Okay, do I know how stretch out the details of an already mundane story, because all I'm wanting to say is there is something I kind of love about how the next day, when I talked to a friend and told her I was up late, watching Angel, and oh, you wouldn't believe what happened, I realized that it's pretty much impossible to explain what the show's about without getting to "oh, frack it, it's impossible to explain" within 1/2 a sentence. I mean, just try to even start to explain who Connor is without giving up as soon as you hear ridiculous it sounds; it's not long before you realize that pretty much the only way to explain e.g. Connor to someone who hasn't watched the show is to say "oh, you'll just have to watch the show." (kind of like Robyn's point about "Martha" in his chatter before "Let's Go Thundering" in "Storefront Hitchcock" - the explanation, on some level, is insulting.) At any rate, I just watched "Smile Time" and decided to make the post I meant to last week. "Smile Time" sort of sums up the point I'm trying to make very well. I mean, that the people who do the show could actually pull that episode off is incredible. I do really love the show, but, on some level, I don't think my love is as is the love of some of the other folks on the list, but I will say that there are moments during those two series (i.e. Buffy and Angel), although few, when I am stunned by what I can only put down to Joss Whedon being a real genius. Oh, any discussion past "Smile Time" (that is mid-season of Season 5), please warn me as I'm getting down to the wire and I imagine there are still one or two tricks up Season 5's sleeve. as ever, Lauren P.S. I went to Michael Clayton with my Mom yesterday (she thinks George Clooney is quite the dreamboat.) George Clooney was, as he often is, very good, and, as he always is, quite the looker, but I was pretty disappointed in the movie. I know it has gotten very good reviews (I tend to be aware of reviews but almost never read them in full before seeing a movie.) In certain ways, it was actually pretty bad. But it was the first movie proper (i.e. in a theatre) that I've seen in what I guess is months, so that part was fun. I really want to see "Into the Wild" in the theatre, but don't know if I'll get to. - -- - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "People with opinions just go around bothering one another." - The Buddha ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 27 Oct 2007 18:43:59 -0500 From: 2fs Subject: Re: The Buffy Thread Still Lives (You Can't Kill It 'Cause It's Already Dead) On 10/27/07, lep wrote: > > > Oh, any discussion past "Smile Time" (that is mid-season of Season 5), > please warn me as I'm getting down to the wire and I imagine there are > still one or two tricks up Season 5's sleeve. Indeed there are. (We just finished watching S5 - i.e., just finished watching the whole series) "Smile Time"'s a fun one for the boys (and for the girls who like girls), what with Naked Nina just barely managing to cover up in her werewolf cage... - -- ...Jeff Norman The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com ------------------------------ End of fegmaniax-digest V16 #380 ********************************
