I was reminded by the above of the late local punk band X-15 who used to do a killer little nihilistic tango called "I Wanna Be Vaporized," notably opening for John Cale back in '81. (Warning, long rant ahead - ignore at your leisure) On september 10th I took my Powerbook to the Apple Store because of a video card/logic board failure. Fine. It's a 3 year old machine (3 years in early August which meant my Applecare had just expired). I chose a little known option called "Depot Repair" which is a flat fee repair of anything wrong with the machine (available only for laptops). They assured me it's a 3 to 5 day turnaround because they had a "depot full of parts." It returned to the Apple store today. October 17th. By my calculations that's 5 weeks. While it was in the ethers of the depot, they replaced the hard drive as well. So my tech guy at the Apple store called me to inform me they shipped it back without an operating system. I was on the phone daily for a few weeks, finally getting to someone who sounded like she could actually get something done. Of course she couldn't even though the words "expidite" and "business critical" were used often. The hold up? They spent 4 weeks "waiting for a part." I reminded them of the concept of a "depot full of parts" but no, the hard drive was back ordered. So when I finally lost my temper a few days ago (not my style but I've limped along turning away freelance jobs and barely able to conduct lectures for 5 weeks) I at least got them to promise that Apple would reimburse me the 300 dollar repair charge. The sad part is that they lost a 23 year evangelist (yes, I did a 2 color seperation for the fall course schedule of classes out of MacDraw in 1984!). I'm turning bitter about the perception I have that the working/professional user is being slighted because Apple is more interested in selling iPods. I would never buy anything but a mac but now I will not be able to sing the praises, I'll just grudgingly get my upgrades and replacement computers. *sigh* Be Seeing You, - - c ps: Fuck You Tom Clark! ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Oct 2007 18:30:44 -0400 From: "Stewart C. That's not true-- they're at least as enthusiastic about selling iPhones! So what is everyfeg, and everyfegs' children, going as for Halloween? I'm not going trick-or-treating with any of the kids this year, so I'm happily bagging the idea of dressing up for the first time in, what, fourteen years?
