There's an algorithm in there somewhere... i realized she has a strange sense of humour (we've only just met in 3D), so i started with "storefront hitchcock" - the chatter before "airscape" (i don't remember why.) so i think it's a case of her liking what he had to say first, and then also liking his songs enough that i think she'll give them some serious listening. so i've burnt her some of the television collection dvds that scott authored / eddie uploaded, and some music. the television dvds have a pretty good chatter/interview to song ratio. we also watched "office space" (which i believe is a tc fave?) - she loves mike judge, but she hadn't seen that one before. then we watched some season 6 episodes of "curb your enthusiasm" which apparently has a bit of an australian following. (like you were dying to know how we spent our tv time.) as far as music, she went to see a band called pinback while in NYC. i'm not familiar with them but she's made me an MP3 disc. anyone know of them? xo p.s. btw, she bought a new ipod at the apple store in NYC (she had some pictures of the store - very, very cool) and apple's address is "one infinity loop"??? is that your work address, tc? that is both very dumb and very cool. - -- - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "People with opinions just go around bothering one another." - The Buddha ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Oct 2007 14:31:40 -0700 From: Tom Clark Subject: Re: that was fast... That's an interesting way about it. Most people I know don't have the type of sense of humor to latch on to Robyn. I usually have to start from the music angle. > > we also watched "office space" (which i believe is a tc fave?) - she > loves mike judge, but she hadn't seen that one before. How about "Idiocracy"? "Office Space" is funny for people who work in technology, but "Idiocracy" is funny for anyone who's ever been to the mall! > p.s. btw, she bought a new ipod at the apple store in NYC (she had > some pictures of the store - very, very cool) and apple's address is > "one infinity loop"??? is that your work address, tc? that is both > very dumb and very cool. It's actually 1 Infinite Loop. When the campus was being built there was a contest to name the road that encircles the buildings and that was the obvious choice. I'm in 3 Infinite Loop, which is the building that faces I-280. - -tc ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 Oct 2007 10:03:29 +1300 From: grutness@slingshot.co.nz Subject: Re: Whole lotta shaking going on >-----Original Message----- >>From: grutness@slingshot.co.nz >>Subject: Whole lotta shaking going on >> >>Dammit... that's three big earthquakes in the last three weeks here. >>I hate the Alpine Fault! > > >We here in California are thinking of you James! Three in quick succesion is too much, and a little worrying. FWIW, it was mag 6.7, about 60km off the west coast of the South Island (about 270km from here), anf there was a small shallow aftershock at 8.20 this mornig 9which i didn't feel). First I heard the thrashin' Gotta Let This Hen Out, then Fegmania and the unforgettable "Man With the Lightbulb Head" ("You're too late! I've come to TURN YOU ON! AHHH-HA-HA-HA-HA-HAAAA!"). "Listening To the Higsons" pretty much counts either way. >> we also watched "office space" (which i believe is a tc fave?) - she >> loves mike judge, but she hadn't seen that one before. > >How about "Idiocracy"? Dude, Office Space is funny for anybody in contemporary world who has a job at all. (Also, let me insert here yet another plug for CM Kornbluth's genius SF story "The Marching Morons" from 1951, which is so Idiocracy in spirit that they should attach a text file of it to the DVD.) Anybody notice this? http://www.cnn.com/2007/TECH/science/10/15/giant.dinosaur.ap/index.html?iref=newssearch The first dinosaur I know of to have corporate sponsorship - maybe they'll slap a couple bumper stickers on the sucker. Eerily relevant 'cause I've been obsessively listening to RobHitch's "Trying To Get To Heaven" anyway and getting the shivers every time he says "I'm in the dinosaurs' waiting room"... np Little Feat: Sailin' Shoes ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Oct 2007 20:30:19 -0400 From: "Stewart C. This is no movie. It's a demented album by the former drummer from Neutral Milk Hotel. I prefer their first album. Would make great cartoon music. My cow-orkers and I want to drive into Boston tonight for some stellar Italian food. I seem to remember a famous street that consisted of Victorian-style buildings with lots of Italian restaurants on the basement level (granted, this was 12 years ago. I met Ken Ostrander and Mitchell Dickerman on that trip.) Any recommendations?? I think we could give up our predisposition to Italian for something else if it were really really noteworthy. Last night we ate at Legal Seafood in Framingham. Twasn't bad.
