I have followed the Triffids map you >proposed, but haven't gotten to the listening part yet. it's a bit more lush than other Clean albums.. after a fashion. That is, it's lush, but the lushness works differently to how it des with most heavily orchestrated albums (not that this is what you'd call heavily orchestrated anyway). If you know any of David Kilgour's non-Clean albums you'll know what I mean (and if you don't, and you're a Clean fan, you probably should - I'd particularly recommend "Sugar Mouth" and "David Kilgour and the Heavy Eights"). I'm belatedly trying to listen to actual Squeeze albums, having gotten by with compilations until now. I caught them sort of at the tail end of their original run when just starting to delve into music; I recall having "Babylon and On" on cassette (because the "Hourglass" video was so visually clever, and that always means the music is good, right?) and being underwhelmed, but years later being bowled over by the singles compilation, and then never, for whatever reason, following up on it. This is pretty damned terrific, an old-school songwriting partnership at a creative peak, and the other songs hold up to the singles, which, in this case, is really saying something. Is "East Side Story" really better than this? It has eluded my browser thus far. Yes, it is. But 'Argybargy' is my second favourite Squeeze album. My daughter rates 'Some Fantastic Place' as well, which they were promoting when we saw them at the Colston Hall in Bristol (the only time I have seen Elton John, who joined them for 'Grapevine'). - - Mike Godwin PS Try prounouncing 'Bath' the way that Winwood pronounces 'Berkshire' but without the 'sher' bit and with a hard 'th' rather than a 'k' and you're there! ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 Sep 2007 07:30:18 -0700 From: "Marc Alberts" Subject: REAP Marcel Marceau went quietly, age 84. http://www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/09/23/marceau.ap/index.html Marc ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 Sep 2007 12:52:53 -0400 From: "Stewart C.
