For some reason, I never had any doubt that the character was a woman - and what planet is this writer living on where jeans and a t-shirt are unusual garb for females? Or maybe I'm really a lesbian trapped in a man's body). Maybe I don't watch enough TV (likely), but is presenting a young woman who's capable, athletic, and isn't always dressed as if she's going out for drinks at some dancey club really that rare on TV? If so, that only goes to show why I feel so damned alienated from certain aspects of American culture - - one reason I don't watch much TV is that when I do, the situations and scenarios so obviously depend upon certain assumptions of what is and isn't "normal" - and those situations do not ring true to my experience, my desires, or my principles - and it's like: what planet do these shows originate from anyway? - -- ...Jeff Norman The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Aug 2007 14:17:19 -0700 (PDT) From: Jeff Dwarf Subject: Re: ObBSG links Lauren Elizabeth wrote: > if you're going to be running tests, can you use this one instead: > http://tinyurl.com/255rta I don't think that dress would look terribly good on me and vice versa. It's been a long time since I've been there, but I just enjoyed walking around and soaking up the atmosphere. The red-light district is interesting in that the women sit on display behind windows. It's basically propagation of hotplug events from the system to user processes. Your app says "I want to know when a keyboard is plugged in" so it registers that request with the system and gets called back when a keyboard appears. There are more aspects to it than that, but that's the high level view. What's funny is that most all modern OS's have a way to do this, so it's not revolutionary by any means. What's also weird is I just discovered that the patent was re-filed in 2004 with a different name and re-granted earlier this year. After the second episode though I started wondering where they were going to go with him, but episode three gives more of clue and I think his character might just have some depth.
