Oh, the next R.E.M. release is set to be, no kidding, a live record. From their classic period of 2005, of course. Bringing the total of their four most recent and very essetial releases to 2 double-disc best-ofs, 1 live record from a tour nobody saw, and 1 unlistenable set of studio mush. So the next studio record had better be very, very good indeed. Admittedly, the bonus disc from the IRS comp was really good. - -Rex ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 26 Aug 2007 13:49:34 -0400 From: "m swedene" Subject: Re: I was walking.. > Oh, the next R.E.M. release is set to be, no kidding, a live record. > From their classic period of 2005, of course. From their classic period of 2005, of course. To be fair, it does also come with a DVD. Kinda smells like "let's burn off the rest of our WB contract and leave for greener pastures." The set list looks less scary than it could for a tour off that album, and a couple people I know who saw them that tour said they were still pretty good live, so that may not be a completely bad thing. Not as good as something from the IRS days, or even just an album version of Tourfilm or their MTV Unplugged in 1991, though. > Bringing the total of their four most recent and very essential > releases to 2 double-disc best-ofs, 1 live record from a tour > nobody saw, and 1 unlistenable set of studio mush. Hm, what "greener pastures" would that be? They can't possibly get a better contract than they have/had. > The set list looks less scary than it could for a tour off that > album, and a couple people I know who saw them that tour said they > were still pretty good live, Absolutely. Even I hated "Around The Sun", but the show in Oberhausen in 2005 was one of the best I have seen! Check out the set list: Finest Worksong Departure I Took Your Name Animal The Outsiders 7 Chinese Bros. High Speed Train Everybody Hurts Boy In The Well Electrolite Leaving New York Orange Crush I Wanted To Be Wrong Final Straw Imitation Of Life The One I Love Walk Unafraid Losing My Religion Break What's The Frequency, Kenneth? Not in the sense of more money -- they'll never get that -- but Warner Bros is in pretty bad shape these days, and they could be thinking that another label might do a better job at promoting their continued existence, a la the way that a label change helped sales of the last Pearl Jam album. > > The set list looks less scary than it could for a tour off that > > album, and a couple people I know who saw them that tour said > they > > were still pretty good live, > > Absolutely.
