FWIW, what with the change in sea levels at the end of the ice age, there are plenty of neolithic remains underwater off the English coast. ISTR that one of the biggest sites for drfedging up (literally) neolithic remains is in the Dogger Bank, an area of shallow water in the middle of the North Sea. Does anyone know how to convert .vob files so that I can burn a DVD to > watch on a DVD player (not just on a computer)? *.vob files are the "native" DVD-file format, so no conversion is necessary. basically, you should be able to start up your DVD-burning software, tell it you want to burn a DVD, tell it the VIDEO_TS directory or files contained therein, and burn away. note that if the DVD was authored as PAL format, many U.S. DVD players will choke on it. the U.S. format is NTSC. there are some flexible-format players that are pretty inexpensive and if you like the brit pop or are just a dopey anglophile such as myself, it's worth the investment IMO (assuming you want to watch the disc on your television, which, given your question, seems the case.) the one i have is a philips (?maybe 640/37 model?) and it also plays *.mpg format on the television which is fun as well. at any rate, if you throw any old movie DVD in your drive and do a directory (folder contents, file explorer, whatever the kids are calling it these days), you may find it helpful as you'll be able to see the format of a dvd. you'll see something to the effect of: AUDIO_TS (directory) VIDEO_TS (directory with files contained listed below) VIDEO_TS.BUP VIDEO_TS.IFO VIDEO_TS.VOB VTS_01_0.BUP VTS_01_0.IFO VTS_01_0.VOB VTS_01_1.VOB VTS_01_2.VOB there may be more or less files in the VIDEO_TS directory. usually the AUDIO_TS directory is empty. personally, i use nero, and my procedure is: 1. start nero 2. tell it i want to burn a video-picture DVD (or something like that - - the option that is _not_ a "data dvd") 3. add the complete contents of the VIDEO_TS directory, including all *.BUP, *.IFO, and *.VOB files. i can't imagine that any DVD-burning software is all that different. one difference, i believe, is that nero or maybe it's just windows machines requires a few more files than MACs for instance. either the *.IFO or the *.BUP file is not necessary on MACs; i forget which one, but the current version of nero is smart enough to figure out what to do if a non-nero or MAC user was the uploader. i hope that helps. also, in the time it took me to write this, perhaps other folks have posted as well. with fewer typos. as ever, lauren - -- - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "People with opinions just go around bothering one another." - The Buddha ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 12 Aug 2007 19:35:19 -0700 From: Tom Clark Subject: Re: fegmaniax-digest V16 #286 On Aug 8, 2007, at 1:54 PM, djini@voicenet.com wrote: > Tom Clark wrote: > >> Sent from my iPhone > > Is that the very first iphone-to-feglist communi-k? I've done so after d/l the torretns, since I couldn't be at the shows. Actually, there are a few of those I'd like to hear. The "Funky Town" on "Obliteration Pie" is fairly cool in its looseness and having-Kimberley-on-it-osity, but one can't help thinking live would be better. So now I kinda think I'm gonna end up seeing both Squeeze and the Buzzcocks within the next week (and I think both of them clocking in with only two founding members, right?). Fountains of Wayne is opening for Squeeze... I thought they were more popular than that these days. Hot Hot Heat is on before the Buzzcocks... that might be cool. The latter show is the Sunset Junction street fair, which is, like, not free for the first time ever this year (now that I live almost close enough to not freak out about parking), but you can't much complain... I've seen a lot of good shows there over the years. Anhow, now I'm really miffed not to have noticed that the Slits were in town last week until it was over... that would've been a nice retro-trifecta. - -Rex ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 12 Aug 2007 21:38:42 -0700 From: Rex Subject: Re: HELP!!
