Well, in the mid-eighties Copey was well and truly fucked up (by his own admission, if I recall - and, coincidentally, when Robyn was at his psychological nadir at about the same time), but since then I think it's more his enthusiasms and beliefs that make people think his mind is completely blown. Fact is, all that stuff about ancient monuments and such makes every bit as much sense as, you know, a huge invisible being somewhere in the sky who created everything but is mainly concerned with what we do with our genitals. While politically radical, Cope's beliefs would lead to a much saner, safer world than the beliefs of those who try to logic a system to justify bombing weddings and running over small children with Humvees in order to allow us to drive modified Hummers while allowing oil companies to continue making record profits. Anyway, wander around to explore the online end of Copeworld... - -- ...Jeff Norman The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 27 Jul 2007 21:34:57 -0500 From: 2fs Subject: Re: Mini-Reviews On 7/27/07, Rex wrote: > > On 7/27/07, Lauren Elizabeth wrote: > > > > > > my editors story which hopefully is not a repeat: > > awhile back, the "penultimate" ex-boyfriend e-mailed me a few editors > > mp3s, and in a highly unusual typo, told me that he thought i would > > like "the bad editors" (he meant to type "the band editors.") he and > > i agreed that we prefer the typo name. > > > META! Prosecutors sent word of the trial to Davies only a few days ago, asking him to come testify, according to the rock musician. Davies' absence at a scheduled trial in 2005 prompted Jordan's office to drop the case then, reserving the right to take a second swipe at Barra. Davies, however, said he couldn't possibly have made it to New Orleans with what he called such scant notice. He expressed dismay with the merry-go-round pattern of the criminal case since he took a bullet in the leg three years ago during a visit to the city. "I am very disappointed with the way this case has been handled," Davies said Thursday. "I intend to pursue it further." ************************************** Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 27 Jul 2007 22:13:27 -0700 From: Rex Subject: Re: Wetness On 7/27/07, Eleanore Adams wrote: > > > > and "charlotte anne" is one of the loveliest songs i know. So that didn't exactly work out. What I was refering to is something else. There is a 30-minute cartoon movie by that guy who also did Animatrix that fits *between* Pitch Black and Chronicles. Actually we stopped after the cartoon and will have to finish some other time. I really like the first half of Pitch Black, but as often is the case with action films, the actual action isn't very interesting. - -- Sebastian Hagedorn Am alten Stellwerk 22, 50733 Kvln, Germany http://www.uni-koeln.de/~a0620/ "Being just contaminates the void" - Robyn Hitchcock ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 28 Jul 2007 14:21:45 +0100 From: hssmrg@bath.ac.uk Subject: RE: Wetness Quoting "Bachman, Michael" : > Is the ancient English town where Julian Cope lives under water as well? > I have been on a JC buying binge the last few months, getting "World > Shut Your Mouth", "Fried" and "Saint Julian". > Michael B. * He lives in Marlborough, correct? And, wow! what a show! Nick was ever lean and handsome, though he's losing a bit on the top. His voice is in perfect form, stronger than ever. The rest of the band - Warren Ellis, Martyn Casey and Jim Sclavunos were superb, absolutely tight, although Warren and Jim are sporting some kind of Rasputin-esque facial hair! There was plenty of Nick-Audience banter all evening long. They came on at 10:30 and played the Grinderman set, everything from the album, rocking the house with Depth Charge Ethel and No Pussy Blues and then mellowing us all out with a beautiful Man in the Moon. Then they took their break, came back for an encore and played Bad Seeds songs. Sorry, I'm not much of a set lister but their renditions of both the Weeping Song and Red Right Hand were spectacular. At one point it seemed Nick was ready to leave the stage and Warren suggested they do a few more. 45 or so minutes. The last song of this set was Tupelo. Nick announced it by saying "I can't leave America without playing Tupelo but I might have to leave America for playing Tupelo." And here was the best part - they left the stage, came back in 10 minutes tugging Henry Rollins and Jello Biafra on stage with 'em and played Deanna with Rollins and Biafra singing backup vocals! I just bought the Grinderman album yesterday. Meanwhile in Brisbane, ex-Bad Seeds members Mick Harvey and Thomas Wydler were supporting Robert Forster in performing the songs from Robert's 1991 solo album "Danger In The Past" live a few days earlier. Mick and Thomas also played on the album all those many years ago. Robert is playing live for the first time since fellow Go-Between mainstay Grant McLennan past away last year. The following days saw Robert playing his other three albums live with various artists who were also on the original recordings.
