Oh, there's nothing wrong with my sense of humor...and, really, what I've observed there is more attractive women in line at the concessions than can be found in the entirety of Sox Park. But, again, the point was not whether gay men go to Wrigley Field (surprise! they're everywhere...) but rather the statement that you wouldn't want to go to the concert, not because of the band, but because it was being held at "the world's largest gay bar" -- more than seeming to mean, "Ooh, who'd want to go there because there might be icky gay guys there and, I dunno, maybe it's catching..." Perhaps it was just a round-about way of cracking the joke, but...it implied much more. ...Really, I'm not trying to start anything, and I don't care if another word about this -- pro or con -- is ever exchanged...but I don't let homophobic (or, or that matter, racist) comments pass lightly, esp. from unexpected sources that should seem to know better... (if yes: this is the thread to do > it in.) Well, as I wrote the one *I* got is a little smaller. The one in the photo has five doors (do you say "door" when it's a wardrobe?), whereas mine has only four. It's only 220 cm wide. Still, I was a little shocked when it arrived and was assembled - it looked smaller in the store! The second factor that comes into play is that clothing takes varying amounts of space depending on how you store it. If you fold everything neatly, you can fit astonishing numbers of shirts and sweaters in a relatively small cabinet. But if you're less tidy, your clothes need much more space ... > (please don't say you're a pack rat and thus my cultural stereotypes > have betrayed me (as the onion shirt says "stereotypes are a real > timesaver.")) True, that. I'm not even sure which stereotype that is, though? Anyway, I *am* a pack rat when it comes to one item of clothing: t-shirts! I have tons of band t-shirts etc. I've kept them all, even though many of them are regrettably either too small to fit me now or have gone beyond repair or beyond seemly appearance. I still mourn the loss of my first R.E.M. shirt (from 1985) when I loaned it to a girl I was in love with and who went to the US for a year - never again! I think I should put up a website with pictures of all my shirts and the stories behind them, but that's one of those projects that I keep on procrastinating. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 07 Jul 2007 09:48:28 -0400 From: "Stewart C. Well, the title alludes to baseball. And it's not like every single baseball reference -- great website, btw -- from the past year could combine to equal even the shortest thread about "Buffy." Or the thingy the guy who did "Buffy" did afterwards that was cancelled after a week but then made into that movie. And that wasn't a takeover of the feglist. "Children have always enjoyed my movies. And I guess I'd pick Venus In Furs over Heroin. oh, i could never pick any VU song over "heroin." i just love that song. not that there aren't others that i love to death, but that one takes the cake. i love the weird mixture - rare outside of a "drug-fueled" point of view - of decay and ambition ("i wish that i was born a thousand years ago..." vs. the dead bodies, etc.) i have a particularly fond memory of lee paris (the only WXPN dj i ever cared for) introducing "heroin" as "here's a nice little ditty..." i love 'sunday morning' as well. maybe it's just me, but i can't tell you often that song fits my mood. for a long time, i thought it was sung by a female although it never particularly sounded like nico or anything. sometimes i still do. xo - -- - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "People with opinions just go around bothering one another." - The Buddha ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 7 Jul 2007 17:15:05 -0500 From: 2fs Subject: Re: confession thread On 7/7/07, Jeff Dwarf wrote: > > Lauren Elizabeth wrote: > > p.s. uh-oh, ["The Boys of Summer"]'s about (shh) baseball, isn't > > it? maybe i shouldn't have responded...i don't want to > > contribute to the takeover of feglist. > > Well, the title alludes to baseball. Only glancingly, in that the phrase "boys of summer" was used to refer to ballplayers as nostalgic evocation generally (as in Roger Kahn's book). The song isn't about baseball at all (no mentions). It's about regrets, aging, changes, etc. My favorite line is (slight paraphrase probably) "I saw a Deadhead sticker on a Cadillac." And yes: it's probably the only Henley solo song I like as well. - -- ...Jeff Norman The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 7 Jul 2007 19:17:31 -0500 From: "Brian Huddell" Subject: RE: confession thread 2fs: > My favorite line is (slight paraphrase probably) "I saw a > Deadhead sticker on a Cadillac." I've always found the song strangely (embarrassingly?) moving. I have a great memory of a solo acoustic Henley performance at the very first Bridge School benefit in 1986. The Bay Area crowd sang that line aloud and cheered, of course, but I remember thinking at the time that I would probably find a few thusly decorated luxury vehicles in the parking lot if I looked for them.
