Hee. I just played a show at the Rainbow last night. It's weird there now. The Cale autobio is kinda cool in its experimental format, and quite funny when he's clearly speaking in his own voice. Alas, one detects the Hand of Bockris just as often. Still, definitely a keeper. "Little Miss Sunshine" was fine. It's one of those things where I think the vitriol directed at it is proportion to its hype, rather than its own intrinsic properties. If it wasn't the best film evar, by no means was it awful, either. I can understand that level of hating on "meh" movies like "CrashNotCronenberg", which was certainly self-important enough to ask for it, but LMS is... basically intended as character sketches, not some weighty manifest, right? - -Rex Girls together outrageously, Rex in LA, but not at the time (at least not yet) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 31 May 2007 16:02:12 -0400 From: "Lauren Elizabeth" Subject: the powerful mach-5 hi fegs, now cars don't usually impress me, but this one is pretty cool: http://www.usatoday.com/life/movies/news/2007-05-30-speed-racer_N.htm?csp=34 i hope they keep the great steering-wheel control panel, with its complex labeling system (e.g. "A", "B"...) i'm trying to remember the mach-5 features (i imagine they are factory installed.) there's the underwater bubble shield, the saws on the front that cut down trees, the underside jumpers, the homing pigeon, the things that pop out of the wheels that knock other cars out the way... btw, wasn't someone making this movie like 5 years, with johnny depp? xo - -- - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "People with opinions just go around bothering one another." - The Buddha ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 31 May 2007 16:08:50 -0400 From: "Lauren Elizabeth" Subject: street life http://news.com.com/8301-10784_3-9723854-7.html xo - -- - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "People with opinions just go around bothering one another." - The Buddha ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 31 May 2007 13:14:21 -0700 From: Tom Clark Subject: Re: the powerful mach-5 On May 31, 2007, at 1:02 PM, Lauren Elizabeth wrote: > now cars don't usually impress me, but this one is pretty cool: > http://www.usatoday.com/life/movies/news/2007-05-30-speed- > racer_N.htm?csp=34 > > i hope they keep the great steering-wheel control panel, with its > complex labeling system (e.g. "A", "B"...) i'm trying to remember the > mach-5 features (i imagine they are factory installed.) there's the > underwater bubble shield, the saws on the front that cut down trees, > the underside jumpers, the homing pigeon, the things that pop out of > the wheels that knock other cars out the way... My 1970 Mach 1 Mustang didn't have any of those fancy features! It was pretty fast though, and I still think to this day that the 1970 Mustang was the best looking Mustang of all time. The new ones handle and stop better though. >btw, wasn't someone making this movie like 5 years ago, with johnny depp? I'm just saying they could have done something *slightly* more subtle, such as using a picture of a guy's butt with a cartoon smoke cloud coming out of it, and naming the album "FART". The article is really helpful, and I am glad the artist was able to articulate the symbolism of the imagein such clear and straightforward terms.
