"waitress": where do i begin? that's kind of a no-brainer: the gynecologist character (who was actually more of a secondary character.) so what's the first thing you do when you and your lovely medical-resident wife move from connecticut to a small southern town? 10 points if you said "start an affair." add points if you said "with a patient". oh, and it's way more interesting if the patient is pregnant. also, it's kind of hot if you have sex at the office. mix it up - in the examining room, in your office, whatever. she has a jealous, violent, stupid husband? not a problem. does it ever occur to you that it's a little weird to continue to be her doctor? i didn't think so. everything will turn out wonderfully, really. on dvd: "the last king of scotland": maybe a movie has great acting. maybe it's an interesting story. maybe it's really well made. maybe you still want to skip it. on *.avi: "BSG: season 3" (progress report): just after they left new caprica, things got really interesting again, so thanks for the encouragement to stick with it. i really didn't like the new caprica episodes; i'm not sure why (maybe i missed the sci-fi elements?) i went on a bender yesterday and have just three more episodes to go with the season, and then i'll be caught up with it and have to wait for season 4 just like common folk. btw, i like the way the episodes are done in the sense that each one has a focus (for example, the search for water, adama's relationship with his wife, kara's "destiny", problems with the working conditions in fuel production.) i don't really watch a lot of dramatic series, so maybe this isn't unusual, but it makes each episode stand on its own in a way; oftentimes it's a part of life in the BSG world of something that hasn't been considered much at all in previous episodes so there's a sort of freshness to most of the episodes. the device is used in a way that the themes don't seem contrived and i think that's quite an accomplishment. xo - -- - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "People with opinions just go around bothering one another." - The Buddha ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 May 2007 13:53:29 -0500 From: "Michael Wells" Subject: there's a lot of life in them thar depths... It sure was unusual to see Forrest as an evil guy if your used to see him playing Charlie Parker, or some him of his more sensitive roles as in "The Crying Game". I saw it once, that was enough, he certainly earned his Oscar. I rented "The Good German" over the weekend. I loved the through back 1940's production qualities of the movie, it really made it seem like genuine 1940's Film Noir. The plot might have had familiar tones, but the acting (especially Cate Blanchett and to a lesser extent George Clooney) was very good. Much better the the other "Good" movie, "the Good Sheppard".
