Sounds like somebody was told what would be good stoner songs, and not a list based on actual experience. +++ That's putting it QUITE politely, Michael. That list ABSO-FRIGGIN-LUTELY SUCKS!!! Your list below kicks that bunch of abject RS idiocy DIRECTLY to the curb and then some! I haven't toked up for decades but back in the day there was a song that used to whip us into a pretty righteous stoned-out stupor. "Wolf" (into "Midnight Moodies") off Joe Walsh and Barnstorm's The Smoker You Drink The Player You Get. QUITE atmospheric by Barnstorm standards. "Wolf" used to f-UP my 9th grade mind back then though! I still recall the night The Cars was freshly procured down the old Record Stop back in ...when ...October '78...? Can't recall the specific date but I do remember my two pals and I taking that cassette for little doobage ride that evening. It's BEYOND me how we never got pulled over back then as we'd smoke pot and have open beer bottles in the car damned near every evening. It's what ya did here on Long Island ...drove around ...wasted. Not condoning it, not at all proud of it but it's a part of my history. Anyway. That album, that evening, that ride out through LI's north fork ...I still remember how that initial sit-down ...um ...initial ride thru(?) with that first Cars record absolutely had us wiggin' out! Actually pulled the car over a couple times to ...I don't know ...listen better...? That record was stonage listening fodder for good bit o'time back then. Mark+++ Speaking of actual experience, I have in fact listened to years and years of music while stoned to the absolute *bejeezus*. I've probably made this list about a hundred times, but since I was high I either never finished or quickly misplaced them. If you're of the mind, try these instead. You'll thank me for it later. It was hard. No amount of "olio" can get you out of some of those corners. I bet that every once in a while a reference passes into language that comes as a giant relief to crossword puzzle writers. I've lost count of the number of times I've seen variations on "beekeeper protrayed by Peter Fonda", but prior to the late '90's I guess there wasn't much you could do with the letter sequence "ULEE". Almost makes you think that certain titles and character names are rigged up by the Crossword Illuminati. I"m not a Brit - and I'm not even a crossword-puzzle solver (too impatient) - - but I am somewhat familiar with "British-style" crossword puzzles. Frank W. Lewis (in _The Nation_, back page) does one: here's a link to his site explaining his "lures" (uh, "ground rules": that's an example...) < http://www.thenation.com/about/crossword.mhtml> Or, here's a clue with its solution: Where one might buy snacks - and possibly lied, Tom having confused senses this way. (13) Delicatessens (the number is the number of letters: if it's two words, it will appear in a form like (6, 7). "Deli" is an anagram ("having confused") for "lied"; similarly, "senses" anagrams to the last few letters ("-essens") - while "Tom" is the "cat" in the middle, of course.) I recall reading that Nabokov used to stuff similar wordplay into the prose of his novels - presumably so some poor scholar late at night could suddenly discover one and falsely hope he'd hit upon the secret key to reveal a whole new layer of meaning... Here's another one (see if you can solve it: it's from Lewis's Nation puzzle #3083, 18 down): A wild snake gets to sort of eat and quietly creeps on you thus.
