What's stranger still is that you can't even find a normal-looking good one to save your life. You can go to the 99-cent store and get a traditional design, but in shit quality, or you go to CVS and choose from an array of two-tone partially rubberized ergonomic-grip with tri-level quad-colored bristle numbers... nothing in between. here's a topic: what rh songs did you used to not like but now like and why? > > ride - i thought the lyrics were kind of cliche when this came out, > but after i had 10 years to think about it, i like the sense of > passive resignation in it that sort of gives a nod to the cliches but > then puts a soft blanket over them and ends up smoothering them. in a > nice way. then something interesting is left to take their place. Always loved that one. But it also has one of my most egregiously misunderstood RH lyrics ever... for years, I thought "That's what all the papers say" was "That's what all the rapists say". I thought that was a really sharply jarring lyric in the middle of the song. But it was just... wrong. Anyways. I like Perspex Island more than most people. I also like Perspex Island more than most people like Perspex Island, but the original point stands as well. I think there are quite a few numbers on "Can of Bees" that have slowly risen to be favorites of mine after starting off feeling like embryonic curiosities. Otherwise, with Robyn, the songs which have not grabbed me at first usually stay in that column. More often, things that I like at first turn out to resonate more and more over the years. I wasn't in love with "Adventure Rocket Ship" at first, but now I like it a lot. The initial reaction was a combo of "sounds too much like If You Were A Priest" and "that just sounds good because it's a band", but it stands with the best of the new stuff. Sorta the same thing with "Madonna of the Wasps", which I thought was a little boilerplate Robyn when it first came out (obvious single and so fort), but had come to seem like the essential flip-side to "Queen of Eyes" in the years since. - -Rex ------------------------------ End of fegmaniax-digest V16 #138 ********************************
