I was just wondering if Miles was still on the feglist, and I am heartened to see that he is. Until my Hotmail account got deleted, I kept Miles's epic tale of the Worst Audience Behavior Ever, involving a bunch of loud drunken fratboy morons at a Jay Farrar acoustic show. Alas, I can no longer remember all the details, but I do recall that it put all my own experiences with poor audience etiquette to shame. they could have the same brain. and what about people who think that they > are another person (like mark david chapman) or have multiple identities? I've been reading lately about an invented phenomenon called "soulbonding." Sometimes authors (my beloved Ursula Le Guin, for one) talk figuratively about "channeling" fictional characters or feeling as if their characters are speaking through them. "Soulbonders" take this one step further and claim that said fictional characters have actually, literally taken up residence in their heads. Some people even claim to have "soulbonded" with real people. (IMO, these folks are either mentally ill and/or are seeking some way of making their geeky obsessions seem special and mystical.) So if you're "soulbonded" with, say, Robyn Hitchcock, does that mean you're 0 degrees of separation from him? Oh, and if you think I'm making this all up, check it: http://community.livejournal.com/soulbonding/ It makes for alternately sad and hilarious reading. And for some reason, I'm finding this sentence very amusing: > "THESE MUGS ARE ALSO AVAILABLE AS SHIRTS" This reminds me of the Hidden Brain Damage scale - http://www.wjh.harvard.edu/~wegner/hbd.htm - specifically, item 3.
