At this remove, the E Street-isms don't register too jarringly. It's from the same year as "Rust Never Sleeps", and it's not *nearly* as strong as that record, but it's not the immediate drop-off in quality Dylan recordings that some rate it... not by a long shot. Weird. Now I'm curious to hear the old version. I really dig this record... rarely do I go from having little interest in a back catalog album to wanting to own two versions of it in a couple of days. That's phenomenal singing; I'm constantly, increasingly befuddled that anyone clings to the notion that Dylan is (or at least was) a poor vocalist.
