I saw an interview with one of the cast (Cleese, possibly?) who said that Feldman's dying words were something like 'I hope this won't interfere with finishing the film'. The interviewee was shocked that even an actor should have the performance in mind at such a time, above family and friends. Particularly with such a rotten film. - - Mike Godwin n.p. Backed by Peter Buck and Bill Rieflin of REM and Scott McCaughey of the Minus 5, Ole Tarantula finds Hitchcock working in the four-piece alt-rock format of his earlier bands the Soft Boys and the Egyptians. Indeed, members of both bands show up on the new disc as well. Not coincidentally, Ole Tarantula is Hitchcock's most engaging record since 1989's Queen Elvis. He's still obsessed with vegetables, insects and human sexuality, and his lyrics still reverberate with the same delightful naoveti and imagination that fueled the Soft Boys' 1980 masterpiece, Underwater Moonlight. Adventure Rocket Ship is a driving psychedelic rocker while Red Locust Frenzy sounds like the love child of Syd Barrett and the Beatles. Come to think of it, that's a pretty good description of most of Hitchcock's songs. - - Michael Senft ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 17 Dec 2006 19:52:26 -0500 From: "Lauren Elizabeth (gmail)" Subject: Shopping suggestions Hi FegList, My sister's Christmas list to Santa included a Townes Van Zandt CD. Well, she also asked for "pruners" - as if I know where or how to get gardening supplies. Any suggestions on one or two TVZ CDs that are good but perhaps not "obvious" choices would be appreciated. Oh, I tried to impress her by knowing a TVZ factoid (learned from FegList)...about what happened to his teeth, but she already knew about it. xo Lauren N.P. At one time even having a choice of his stuff was an issue, as there wasn't that much out there. Thanks to the concerted efforts of folks like Guy Clark, that's less of a problem now. "Live at the Old Quarter, Houston, Texas" is a great live show, and it shouldn't be going for what Amazon is asking. I found a copy in a local Barnes & Noble for $17 last year. "Drama Falls Like Teardrops" if you need a collection. "Poet: A Tribute to Townes Van Zandt" to hear TvZ sung by other folks. Just paid out the ass for Lyle Lovett, John Hiatt, Joe Ely and Guy Clark tickets for my wife's xmas present, Michael ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 18 Dec 2006 10:52:42 -0600 From: "Michael Wells" Subject: reap Denis Payton, Dave Clark 5 is no longer glad all over: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6190357.stm Michael ------------------------------ End of fegmaniax-digest V15 #304 ********************************
