(I'm an evil Windows bastard if that, uh, helps) More importantly, is it possible for me to get rid of the "click-cluck" that my neigbor's TiVo makes every time they're watching a suspense movie too loudly, and the string are all tension-y, and suddenly they decide to skip to the next scene where the wiseguys are saying "fuck" a lot? Like, remotely? The whiplash, and the cutesy sound, are bigger obstacles to sleep than the content of the films themselves. (I'm an evil Windows bastard if that, uh, helps) I know in the Mac application bundle, there's a sound file ("complete.aif") that contains that sound, so replacing that with an empty file of the same name would have the effect you're looking for. I'm not familiar with the layout of Windows applications, but I would assume that same sound file is located somewhere on your system. - -tc ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 5 Dec 2006 18:43:05 -0600 From: 2fs Subject: Re: tink-a-dink! I did some looking, and found this page: < http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/lofiversion/index.php/t49168.html>. But its advice exceeds the limits of my technical competence, specifically: - --- The file is embedded as resource with ID 1050 in iTunes.exe. Thanks for the tip! Am looking into resource editors at the moment and see if I can "fix" it... - --- Eh wot now? My main problem with the "chime" (more like 3 notes on a xylophone) is that it's SO FREAKIN LOUD compared with everything else and makes me jump out of my damned chair or bleed through the ears. (Plus it's a harsh, percussive sound: I'd rather have something a bit less in-your-face.) If it were 1/4 the volume, even, I'd be happy. The problem is, it's louder than the music by a good deal...so turning down either iTunes' volume or the system volume does no good: relatively speaking, it's still way louder - so if I'm, for example, listening to music in headphones and also trying to rip a disc, I'll go deaf eventually... - -- ...Jeff Norman The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 5 Dec 2006 19:09:15 -0600 From: "Brian Huddell" Subject: RE: tink-a-dink! > Unfortunately, the Windows version doesn't work that way. Open the Sounds and Audio Devices applet in Windows' Control Panel. Click the Sounds tab. I don't have iTunes installed but it's possible that it will be listed in the Program Events box, in which case you can just change each event's sound to "none". If iTunes is not listed in the Program Events box, and there's *really* no way to turn off sounds within iTunes' preferences, then wow. Does iTunes also tell its users when to go to bed and what kind of bike to ride? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 5 Dec 2006 21:13:53 -0600 From: 2fs Subject: Re: tink-a-dink! Does iTunes > also tell its users when to go to bed and what kind of bike to ride? Yes. 11:37 pm local time, and some Trek model or other. Anyway, iTunes is not listed under "Program Events"...so I'm kind of at a loss. It certainly seems like dumbass design to have *no way* to turn off a sound short of turning off all sounds. If nothing else, I wonder about accessibility issues: if there's some way to have the screen flash or something (as if I were deaf) rather than make a noise, that'd be way less disruptive... - -- ...Jeff Norman The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 5 Dec 2006 21:01:19 -0800 From: Tom Clark Subject: Re: tink-a-dink! Looking through our bug database, this has been reported before and is currently an open issue for the iTunes team. I encourage you to add your own feedback, since issues reported frequently tend to get the most attention: http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html - -tc ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 6 Dec 2006 00:13:12 -0500 From: "Lauren Elizabeth (gmail)" Subject: Re: Not a Reap Yet, but....
