The AMG notes the period during which this version existed but their notes on the LP's from that time are really scant on details-- I can't even tell for sure who played on what records. I have the early Red (C)(K)rayola '60s Texas psych stuff and enjoy some of it, I like Mayo Thompson with Pere Ubu, and I also really like most everything by The Raincoats, Swell Maps, X-Ray Spex and Essential Logic, so I assume this might be interesting material to me, but on the other hand I have the Red Krayola/Art & Language record "Corrected Slogans" and find it fairly dull and off-putting. So... any opinions? Also, anyone heard / have Thompson's 1970 solo release "Corky's Debt to His Father"? The reviews I have seen refer to it as "Barrett-esque", which sorta fits in with Thompson's profile abstractly, but not so much sonically based on what I've heard. We got Acid Bird, Gigolo Aunt and Open the Door Homer as well as The Ballad Of John and Yoko. Much more subdued than Ferndale, but good in it's own right. Robyn was in good spirits even with back problems. Would have killed for that setlist at either of the shows I saw. And doesn't he always seem to have back problems about this point through a tour? As someone with a tetchy lower back himself, I was a little surprised at how much Robyn was bouncing around in Chicago (and to a lesser extent, in Detroit). Tom, re: Lollapalooza '92 > No shit! I was there too and I would have absolutely freaked if I ran into Robyn. I'm rarely one for nostalgia, but seeing company-sponsered stages at Lollapalooza sure makes me pine for those early lineups and attitude (remember "come all day / pack a lunch"?). > And it very well could have happened during the Ministry set, since the combination of Bill Reiflin's drumming and the half tab of window pane in my system had me heading for the concession... Understandable! I also have to relate a short story which gave me some pause. After the Chicago gig I had managed to get Robyn, Peter and Scott to all sign my copy of OT. Bill had been busy breaking down his own set so I didn't bother, but on the way out I saw him packing near the doors and asked him then if he'd sign it (which he did). I tried throwing a compliment his way by saying he'd done a great job with Morris Windsor's parts, to which he said something un-reprintable and not at all nice. I wasn't sure if he was joking or not, but his sarcastic follow-up comment led me to believe he wasn't. So I've got a new mantra: fuck Bill Reiflin! I haven't heard any of these - but a lot of Red Krayola, and that Mayo Thompson CD, are available at eMusic (there are samples as well). Their rates are going up 11/21 for new members (existing members can keep the old rates) - so if you were thinking of joining but holding off for some reason, now's probably a good time to do it. - -- ...Jeff Norman The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Nov 2006 11:24:14 -0800 (PST) From: JBJ Subject: more Off-Topicness: Suddenly, Tammy! christmas EP circa 1997 Does anyone have the "Shut Up, It's Christmas" EP by Suddenly, Tammy! ? I could be cute just like Tom and suggest you buy a Microsoft Zune, which would please my corporate masters. But if you are gonna spend that kind of money ($250) I'd buy a 30GB iPod. Other good brands are Sansa and Samsung but their cheaper models ($150) not offer any more value that the superior 2GB iPod Nano ($150). If your budget is under $100 I'd recommend the iPod Shuffle ($79). They offer 1GB and are super tiny and cute. The most other sub $100 mp3 players are garbage. if you have any other models in mind let me know and i can run it buy some more expert people i know at work. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Nov 2006 19:39:09 -0600 From: Marcy Tanter Subject: Re: mp3 players: OT I would be disappointed if I weren't mocked in that way!
