I can't really call this a de-lurk since I've only looked at the archives off & on since I fell off the list, but I thought I'd take the wonderful new album as an excuse to stick my head in and say hi. I posted some in the early part of this yet-unnamed decade, and enjoyed reading posts here before and after. I'm really pleased with the new record. I like the front cover, the back cover and particularly everything in between. I was so excited about the new release I got silly and listened to it by candle light after everyone else was asleep (the other 2 in my household have pretty much gone back to disco or forward to the 19th century respectively). I think "The Authority Box" sounds like SF Sorrow era Pretty Things. I assume the songs have been discussed at length here already & I will have to poke around in the archives to read about it. My basic facts are pretty much the same -- occasional poetry, occasional fiction, occasional busking, continuous working in a law library, continuous getting my daughter ready for college. Still don't have TV, but sure enjoyed all those Firefly DVDs. I don't see Kay in the recent archives, but if she's lurking, Hi Kay, I hope all is well. I don't have your email any more. I specifically want to know which of the dancers in the Blind Faith DVD is Mike Godwin. I'll keep checking the Archives for news of the tour -- hope to make Baltimore, but don't have tickets -- and talk of the record. This is a fine whirlpool in the thankfully still turbulent internet. That's an interesting point you make about The Authority Box... have to cast me ears over it again. My take on the album is that it's good, but not quite as good as seemingly everyone says... I like it, but then I loved Jewels. Oh, and 'round these parts, we call this decade The Noughties. I think my two records in this category are actually by Mr. Scruff and Mr. Children. Long story, the latter, involving "Tomorrow Never Knows", a karaoke cubicle with a mostly-Korean song list, the 99-cent bin and a bass player. I don't think I have any records credited to a "Dr.", but quite a few credited to one Capt. or another. - -SER ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 18 Oct 2006 12:18:13 -0400 From: wojbearpig Subject: RH&V3 in Sydney - ----- Forwarded message from bill gibson ----- To: RobynHitchcockClub@yahoogroups.com From: "bill gibson" Date: Wed, 18 Oct 2006 16:09:01 -0000 Subject: [RobynHitchcockClub] RH&V3 in Sydney Well, that was a mighty fine gig indeed. We didn't get some of the classics Adelaide was treated to (no Vibrating, Acid Bird or GITTSB, and only the one Minus 5 tune), but we did get Chinese Bones in the encore, and a brand new song called Propeller Time, which a friend described as sounding like Guided By Voices. Hmmm, not sure about that....but it was cool. Eight Miles High had the crowd in raptures. The sound was exceptional, and I wish I'd been able to record it. And Scott got a chuckle out of my request for Taco Wagon! Scott and Pete were still happily signing merch and talking to folks as I ran out the door (had to get the missus home in time for an early start in the morning). But: (A) NBC is still buried in 4th place; (B) as poor as it's rating are, STudio 60 is still beating the ABC show at 10pm Monday night; and (C) there is still some prestige to having it on the air because of the Sorkin factor. I'd guess that when the NFL season ends, NBC moves it somewhere as part of the machinications related to having to fill out Sunday night, and if ratings don't improve, they don't bring it back for a second season.
