Okay - I'm taking the risk that you're not just extending an absurd joke here. How exactly would the government go about preventing "any two clods [from] breed[ing] with impunity"? Chastity belts? Castration? And what standards would they use in determining clodness? Maybe the right wing has it all wrong: as some racists openly do, perhaps it should *encourage* abortion among the more clodly elements of society. Or perhaps government might borrow a leaf from Anthony Burgess and encourage homosexuality - after all, gay sex doesn't cause babies. Or maybe there should be laws providing for mandatory blowjobs and cunnilingus, to relieve the sexual frustration of the unfit proletariat. (You think some folks have working-class envy now, just wait till that legislation goes through...) You'd still need a license to fish - you gotta feed the fish, you know. - -- ...Jeff Norman The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 6 Oct 2006 16:25:18 -0700 (PDT) From: Jeff Dwarf Subject: Reap The 2006 Minnesota Twins. . Afterwards, someone asked him whether he was worried that putting out a book full of intentional lies passed off as an "almanac" wasn't, in some way, giving aid and comfort to the lies of the Bush administration. Hodgman first launched into a narrative about his undergraduate days as an English major at Yale in the late '80s and early '90s at the height (and epicenter) of postmodernism...and then commented that he felt it ironic that the same people who'd bloviated over the horrific dangers the supposedly truth-evaporating postmodernists posed to the American public's moral health were now the ones blithely deriding the pitiful "reality-based" community and changing facts every other day. "This administration is the most pomo administration ever," he summed up. And here again: the party that goes on and on about the importance of morality and family values blah-blah-blah, confronted with the failure of one of its own to live up to those standards, suddenly decides moral relativism, factual indeterminacy, and deconstructing the situation is more appropriate. Almost funny. - -- ...Jeff Norman The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com * very feg-friendly, I'd say. Amusingly, one of the main participants in discussion on those lists was none other than one "Spotted Eagle Ray." Anyway: Eb, I think those lists would generate more discussion if they were (a) shorter, and (b) came accompanied by some notion of why you're posting those artists. Otherwise (speaking for myself at least), my eyes just glaze over seeing an endless list of band names, without even blank lines to give them a break. - -- ...Jeff Norman The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 6 Oct 2006 16:58:57 -0700 From: "Spotted Eagle Ray" Subject: Re: Bleakest. To talk about Robyn Hitchcock's long and distinguished career here would be too much, we think. If you really need a refresher, click here (gave a link to the All Music Guide) Just know that 25 years into his career this Englishman is at the top of his game. His fondness for our little desert town allows us more opportunities than most to get to see this songwriter/performer. Still, it is not nearly enough. So here we are eagerly awaiting this return on this November Friday night. Whether he brings in a crack outfit to join him, or recruits the services of Luca or Howe Gelb or the Zsa Zsas or some other surprise, he always puts on an unforgettable night of music. More details soon! But please note the low ticket price...this is a steal! Tickets : $8 $10dos 9pm ($1 per ticket PayPal fee for charging on-line) http://www.hotelcongress.com/club/ A really cheap ticket this time. His shows at Club Congress are always great. Is anyone else planning on making it to this one? Feel free to contact me. Later, Marc btw--It looks like this and one of the Maxwell's shows are the only solo ones in his upcoming gigs. I also just saw that he is playing a French show with Morris W. on the 5th of December (Java Club - duo with Morris Windsor Paris, France) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 6 Oct 2006 22:54:27 -0400 From: "Dane Horsfeld" Subject: Re: fegmaniax-digest V15 #235 > Date: Fri, 06 Oct 2006 11:13:40 -0700 > From: "Jason R. "it'll be ok...it'll be ok..." possible breakdowns... it seems to me that when robyn has switched labels, or taken a year off ('83, '87, '92, '97, '05) between albums, it is an indication of some problem. from 'decay' to 'trains' he did both. same between 'element' and 'globe'. 'eye' (for me, his angriest album) was an indie release (on twin/tone) in the midst of the a&m years. between 'respect' (the last a&m album) and 'moss' (the first warner album) there was 'oblivion' (on rhino). he made another transition from 'jewels' (the last warner album) to 'bram' (paf); as well as from 'luxor' (paf) to 'spooked' (yep roc). and don't forget that 'nextdoorland' was on matador. certainly, he has gotten used to the label-go-round by this point in time. no label seems to be able to tame him or satisfy him. i'm sure that each label has its own story. i've read about his disgust with 'decay' made him "quit"; but obviously (and thankfully) that didn't stick.
