He was also really handsome! My sentiments exactly. Regrettably he ruined his reputation in several ways: 1) Getting slagged off by Bob Dylan in 'Don't Look Back'; 2) Not being afraid to write silly songs; 3) Drivelling about "whole commune of musicians getting it together on an island" in a Tony Palmer documentary; 4) Hanging out with the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, though he later repudiated this: "Psychedelic yogi is not a very groovy guru" (from a song on Open Road). 5) Signing himself "Thy humble minstrel" on record covers. All of which tended to destroy his good name amongst people who have forgiven Dylan, the Beatles, the Cream and the Mamas and Papas for committing many of the same indiscretions, though as far as I know nobody else has ever done number five. - - Mike 'I'd rather wash them in a stream - y'know what I mean?' It's true. Well, not a total vegan or anything, but he has always enjoyed lettuce (but not other leafy things, like houseplants) and waffles (all kinds). His name is Mo, which is short for Molasses J. Foofiehead (I did not name him and usually call him "Mo," "Modles," or "Stupid damn cat!!!"). And, yes, the Rev would love it if Robyn stopped anywhere in the northerny "middle" of the US as he traverses between both coasts. I have a church hall that's got tiled walls with crazy natural reverb (it's like a giant bathroom) he can play in, if he wants. He can even do his anti-church rants between songs. I'm pretty sick of the institution myself these days. Did I ever tell the funny story of how I accidentally gave out copies of Robyn's Music Saves in-store (from Mr Nupp's fine fine recording) to church members when they thought they were getting a CD of our youth group "band" doing bab bad bad versions of praise songs? ("Praise song," for those who may not know, is a non-hymn piece of "sacred" music that is melodically simplistic, musically uninteresting and theologically disgusting. http://en.wikipedia.org/ wiki/Praise_song) Man, were those people surprised! The funniest part is that at least one person listened to the whole thing before they gave it back! I still to this day do not know how 2 of the 10 CDs I burned had Robyn on them. Well, thanks for listening. ------------------------------ End of fegmaniax-digest V15 #212 ********************************
