And for old PDP fans, the new album "is about half" recorded and is a return to the guitar-rocking days of yore. Early on in which period several members of said group opened for Robyn at Schuba's, just to wrap it all together burrito-like. Matt: > Green tea though... I'd watch that if I were you - have you read the Sheridan Le Fanu story where the priest with no vices save a cup of green tea is hounded to death by a spectral monkey...? Oh dear, that explains it. I can't get enough of the stuff as a substitute for the old bean juice ((young) middle-aged life and all that). And I'll be checking out the new tunes shortly - "Dark Matter" is still one of my all-time faves! I've always heard "just under boiling", about bringing water to "a boil" or "the boiling point", but I don't recall ever having heard "the boil" on its own like that before in America. Maybe it's universal in the UK but regional in the US. Dunno, it sure looks odd to me, but maybe I just haven't been paying attention. In all of our boiling constructions, I think we Americans are much more likely to say "a boil" than "the boil." Though I have heard the latter. - --Chris ______________________________________________________________________ Christopher Gross On the Internet, nobody knows I'm a dog. chrisg@gwu.edu ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Aug 2006 07:20:46 +0000 From: "Brian Hoare" Subject: RE: goodies >Subject: goodies > >Hey fegs - >I read somewhere that Robyn recorded a few tracks for this comp, but they >didn't make the first cut and will be featured on Volume 2 if it should >ever come out. This is a major loss. As a former trombonist through high school and college, I latched onto his recordings as well as the other great canadian low brass specialist, Rob McConnell. Maynard would often stop in Tempe, AZ and I would always catch his performances throughout high school and college in the 80's. Sadly, I missed his performances last month here in NYC at the Blue Note. Most will be familiar with his theme from Rocky, "Gonna Fly Now" and his "jazz fusion" stage, but there is also a wealth of his older catalogue available. He also invented the MF Horn, which was a combination valve trombone AND slide working in tandem. Blew my mind watching him play it... - -Steve ------------------------------ End of fegmaniax-digest V15 #197 ********************************
