While i haven't ever delved into Amon Duul (as I have with Brainticket and other krautrock acts), what I've heard does sound promising. > Soft Machine-Vols. 1 & 2 This is the band when Kevin Ayers was still with them (IIRC), so there's quite a bit of humor in the music. When I first heard these two albums I couldn't stop listening to them for weeks. They've come to be my favorite Wyatt-related recordings (next to the Matching Mole records and Soft Machine IV, fwiw). > T. Rex-Tanx > The 23rd Turnoff-The Dream Of Michelangelo Wow. The 23rd Turnoff's cut on The British Psychedelic Trip. Volume 1 compilation, "Leave Me Here" is one of my favorite English psychedelic pop gems of all time. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 21 May 2006 07:22:22 +1200 From: grutness@slingshot.co.nz Subject: Re: fegmaniax-digest V15 #109 > >Joni Mitchell-Hejira > >This is my favorite Joni album. I skimmed the clips for Barabajagal and Hurdy Gurdy, and must confess that the albums sounded more worthwhile than expected. There are a few old albums of just-OK merits emerging on my mental shopping list which bug me, because I know I could have picked them up for cheap in the glory days of the used-vinyl era. Oh, those sunny days when used bins were crammed full of <$2 secondhand vinyl freshly dumped by collectors who were "upgrading" their vinyl to CDs.... Heard the new Built to Spill today, which I didn't like as well as some previous records (for me, this one is too "simple-chordy" and not "interwoven, post-rock picking" enough). I'm reminded of Built to Spill's backhanded-compliment status: They still rank as close to my very favorite Band Which I Don't Like. Perhaps only outmatched by Low? :) I finally saw "The Birth of a Nation" this week, after wanting to see it since, oh, the late '80s or so? Wow, what a *mindblowing* clash of artistic contradictions. Couldn't believe how visionary the filmmaking was. Couldn't believe the embarrassing cluelessness of the second half's script. I have been listening non-stop this week to the new King Biscuit Time album "Black Gold." Beta Band meets mid-70s Floyd, ala Obscured By Clouds. It's damn fine. And Donovan? I third the above list and also agree on A Gift From a Flower to a Garden and Sunshine Superman. All of these are in my library, still only on vinyl however. - - c ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 21 May 2006 08:09:32 -0700 (PDT) From: bayard Subject: Lost video So I went on vacation for a week and my expensive comcast DVR managed to bork up the one show I wanted to record, "Lost". Does anyone have a link to a file or working torrent of this? It's episode 22. ------------------------------ End of fegmaniax-digest V15 #110 ********************************
