Nothing, but if I recall correctly Rex does not own a TV. So this is all kind of like arguing about rap music with my grandfather. One side literally has no clue what they are talking about. The best shows on TV are currently The Wire, Veronica Mars, Lost, and Battlestar Galactica. And the latest seasons of The Sopranos and The Shield are/were pretty great as well. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Apr 2006 20:52:57 -0500 From: 2fs Subject: Re: As usual when talk turns to TV shows... Which he'd acknowledged. But hey: for the show's first two seasons (I think it was two - please crucify me if I'm incorrect), Rory was in high school. And indeed, many episodes did center around her. So I'm not sure why you say the show wasn't "EVER centered around 'High School kids'" - when, in fact, it was, sometimes. Or is this a finesse argument: yeah, the characters were in high school, but the problems were more universal blah-blah-blah. In which case, bitching about sci-fi and anime is pretty damned irrelevant - since obviously the same is true there. - -- ...Jeff Norman The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Apr 2006 19:34:04 -0700 From: Eb Subject: Re: As usual when talk turns to TV shows... 2fs wrote: > But hey: for the show's first two seasons (I think it was two - please > crucify me if I'm incorrect), Rory was in high school. There's a difference between saying PLOTS were about high-school kids, as opposed to the whole show. The high-school scenes were always secondary to the central story focus, which is Lorelei, her immediate family and dat wacky town where she lives. Lane was the second most important "high school" character after Rory, and I don't believe Lane even went to the same high school, did she? Now I get why there aren't more TV threads. This is really dull. ;) Eb ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Apr 2006 21:08:04 -0700 From: "Spotted Eagle Ray" Subject: Re: As usual when talk turns to TV shows... I've been really, really clear about that. Jason: > Nothing, but if I recall correctly Rex does not own a TV. So this is > all kind of like arguing about rap music with my grandfather. But I do work for a major network and deal with TV programs all day, so the metaphor only really holds if your grandfather works for BET or somethin'. I'm not THAT out of it where TV is concerned. And I have said over and over again that I only saw this show once, and Eb's right... this is pretty boring. I'm goin' to bed. - -Rx ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 14 Apr 2006 12:21:56 -0400 From: The Great Quail Subject: Buffy torch Eb asks, > For how many years did you want us to carry the torch with you, Chris? The last two episodes of _South Park_ have been in part about how much Trey and Matt dislike being compared to _Family Guy,_ since FG's jokes are too frequently non-sequiturs while SP's are mostly ingrained into the plot. Cartman uses FG's putting a depiction of Mohammed on the air as an excuse to get try to get the show pulled. Apparently, FG is written by manatees in a tank randomly pulling out jokeballs. That is almost exactly what I've been saying for years, and getting nothing but blank stares back. Jeez, if Matt and Trey have taken down both Scientology and FAMILY GUY in the space of less than a month, I say, sainthoods all around. - -Rx ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 14 Apr 2006 11:52:39 -0700 From: Eb Subject: Re: As usual when talk turns to TV shows...
