"The First International Arts Pestival is dedicated to raising awareness of the integral role insects play in the global ecosystem and in all animal societies. Many of those insects are increasingly endangered through human action." ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 02 Apr 2006 19:45:46 +0000 From: "rubrshrk" Subject: The Drizzle (no ATHF content), reap Actually, thanks Eddie for keeping me alive on this list. At the risk of rolling your log, I'm glad I am not forgotten. For those of you who don't know or remember me- wow, cool. I can only wonder what that's like. I have been through a couple of rough spots. My dad became ill and passed away a few weeks ago and that was a big surprise to my family. I suppose I was a bit better prepared than they were, but that didn't take away the unpleasantness. He was an incredibly decent human being, despite being a very quiet man and somewhat hard to ever feel close to. I had the Yip Song going through my head along with RH's explanation during the whole time I was at the hospital with my dad. Dad was able to do it his way, by holding on and getting the respirator out and going home before dying the next day. Thanks to a great boss and customers, I was able to stay with the family for an extended period to try to help take care of things and spread a little sunshine. Our family was beyond fantastic through the ordeal, always making sure to take care of others before themselves. My silver lining is that I was able to find out what kind of people we are (and that was good.) Free speech message: I say this kindly and gently: my dad would have been in less pain and lived considerably longer if he hadn't smoked (or at least not as long) and had drank less. In the end, his emphasema, COPD and asbestosis had decimated his lung function and he survived the past couple of years on an oxygen level that would kill real human beings. Additionally, due to having blood pass through a shunt that had formed in his liver, bypassing his heart and lungs, he had a very low blood oxygen level. This probably brought about his end more swiftly and almost certainly caused him a great deal of discomfort the past few years. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 3 Apr 2006 14:51:43 -0400 From: "Bachman, Michael" Subject: RE: Merle Rex writes, >> Haggard is a little trickier. Unless you want to go the "Greatest >Hits" route to get a taste, I'd recommend "Branded Man/I'm a Lonesome >Fugitive" to start. And a bottle of whiskey. Or maybe two bottles of >whiskey. I guess it was a good day today for ordering CD's from musicians I don't have in my collection : I'm a Lonesome Fugitive / Branded Man" Merle Haggard; "No Other" Gene Clark (not including Byrds); "Live at the Old Quarter, Houston, Texas" Townes Van Zandt;. I'll wait to get the whiskey until the Hag CD arrives. If you really don't have any other solo Gene Clark, and you're not looking for a BEST OF, please balance out "No Other", which is good but somewhat atypical, with "White Light", which is excellent and more representative, before you give up on his solo stuff. (There is a pretty solid compilation, FLYING HIGH, too, but it may be out of print...) - -Rx ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 3 Apr 2006 15:26:49 -0400 From: "Bachman, Michael" Subject: RE: Merle On 4/3/06, Bachman, Michael < Michael.Bachman@fanucrobotics.com> wrote: I guess it was a good day today for ordering CD's from musicians I don't have in my collection : I'm a Lonesome Fugitive / Branded Man" Merle Haggard; "No Other" Gene Clark (not including Byrds); "Live at the Old Quarter, Houston, Texas" Townes Van Zandt;. (There is a pretty solid > compilation, FLYING HIGH, too, but it may be out of print...) Thanks, I'll file "White Light" under things to buy in May. Did we ever do Top 10 List of solo albums by ex-Byrd members? I don't have any solo McGuinn, Hillman, Crosby or Clark, but Gram has been a favorite of mine for over 30 years now ever since I got Grievous Angel and GP back in 1975. Michael B. Even if you limit it to only "proper" LP's, certainly Gram and the Burritos handily capture the top four spots. And I'd probably allocate the rest to Gene. Maybe one spot to McGuinn for sentimental reasons, but if you want good solo McGuinn you should, somewhat ironically, pick up one of the last four Byrds releases. That said, I've had a few disparate people recommend Crosby's solo debut (If Only I Could Remember My Name (sic), I think) to me recently. Feggy comments on that one? - -Rx ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 4 Apr 2006 09:25:54 -0700 From: "Spotted Eagle Ray" Subject: Paging Matt Sewell: 1 degree of feg-band separation Hey, Matt, much to my surprise I find my band sharing a bill with The Black Watch in LA later this month.
