Mathew Sweet and Susanna Hoffs salute to the 60's pretty interesting. I wonder if they will be touring together? Nice song selection from looking it up on amazon.com, I'll definitely get it. Probably because most people think George played that riff in one pass when in fact it's two guitar tracks playing harmony, a la Thin Lizzy, Boston, etc... I once saw a guy try to play that bit by himself and his left hand literally split in half. Literally. OK, figuratively. +brian in New Orleans ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Mar 2006 20:21:46 -0600 From: Steve Schiavo Subject: Re: Under the Covers, Vol. One available April 18th. Honestly, I have no idea what people mean, specifically, when they say, of any particular track, that it's "too produced." Do you mean that it doesn't sound like four people in a room that you recorded with a Radio Shack cassette player? Or what? I mean, are you getting at some notion of distancing, of lack of immediacy or presence or something? About all I can say on that front, about this recording, is I'm not sure I'm happy with the double-tracked vocal part. Instrumentally, it seems (as said) pretty close to the Beatles' version - which is "overproduced" by having two (two!) guitars, bass, and drums (and there might have been a teensy organ in there too. Oh get your mind out of the gutter.) I kind of like the added backing vocals (the part that isn't in the Beatles version), although I suppose that might be "overproduced" as well. Really though I can't say much about the sound of the recording, as it's presented in myspace's usual thrilling lo-fi. Why is everyone so het up about myspace? It works only maybe half the time, its interface is glitchy, and it's overrun by smarmy logrollers. - -- ...Jeff Norman The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Mar 2006 01:48:54 -0600 From: Steve Schiavo Subject: Re: Under the Covers, Vol. One available April 18th. But the stream works pretty well, and you can make out the subtle bits if you crank it up some. Such pretty pop songs, and no deconstruction. - - Steve __________ No matter where you go, there you are. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Mar 2006 08:50:30 +0000 (GMT) From: Tulloch Subject: Re: Matthew Sweet & Susanna Hoffs 2fs wrote: and it's overrun by smarmy logrollers.
