That sentence should read > "...this morning, eh!" I think an eh would've been a bit forced there. There's a time and a place for its use, and I don't feel it was there. BTW, for a slice of low-budget Canadian weird humour, rent "Phil The Alien". It's very silly. And it has Rush in the soundtrack. Good, eh? I guess folks will have to settle for seeing Tool instead! http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060317/music_nm/morrissey_dc And now there are two festival lineups to compare: http://www.coachella.com/artists/ http://www.lollapalooza.com/default.asp?fd=1 Looking forward to seeing David Gilmour next month, Michael ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 Mar 2006 11:25:04 -0600 From: 2fs Subject: Re: money is murder On 3/20/06, Michael Wells wrote: > I haven't been following any Smiths news of late, but I wonder if he > (and Marr?) turned it down because it would have involved giving more > money to Joyce (and given what Morrissey seems to have morphed into, the > statement "money doesn't enter into it" sounds like complete > horsehockey). I can say only that if Morrissey is representing things accurately, I'd have to agree with him. Mike Joyce *contributed* to the Smiths' success - but equally? Not bloody likely. Distributing more proceeds to the songwriters seems eminently reasonable to me. - -- ...Jeff Norman The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 Mar 2006 09:44:34 -0800 (PST) From: Jeff Dwarf Subject: Re: money is murder 2fs wrote: > Michael Wells wrote: > > I haven't been following any Smiths news of late, > > but I wonder if he (and Marr?) turned it down > > because it would have involved giving more > > money to Joyce (and given what Morrissey seems to > > have morphed into, the statement "money doesn't > > enter into it" sounds like complete horsehockey). > > I guess folks will have to settle for seeing > > Tool instead! Well, neither he nor Marr need the money certainly. Rourke might -- he had to sell a couple basses on eBay a while back -- but if he's clean, frankly, I can't see why he can't make a living as a studio musician since he is a rather fine bass player. Also, he (Rourke, that is) and Marr have apparently mended fences in recent years, so it could be that Marr has helped him out a bit since then. And even then, Morrissey, Marr, and Rourke could easily reform with another drummer if they wanted to, even if they could, for reason, be prevented from calling it The Smiths -- it's not like calling it Morrissey & Marr would attract any less attention. > I could have sworn I'd posted this here before (but > search results turn up nothing), but anyway: for > what it's worth, here's a recent take from > Morrissey's point of view on the Mike Joyce thing: > . > I can say only that if Morrissey is representing > things accurately, I'd have to agree with him. > Mike Joyce *contributed* to the Smiths' success > - but equally? Morrissey and Marr should have hired Robert Smith's attorney, from when Laurence Tolhurst tried suing him for more back royalties. Besides Joyce's claims, it also reads like Morrissey's British attorneys may actually be bigger fuck ups than the Bushistas. When Ian and Will were having rhythm section troubles near the end of the Electrafixion era, I remember suggesting they pick up Rourke and Joyce and call it the Elektrasmiths, though that takes the crucifixion part of the word away.
