I have been getting back into CD burning a bit after some time away, and come to findnd out, there are issues with burning too fast (or too slow) that can make the copied disc sound slsightly wowrse than the original. I have taken to burning at 24x or so as a sort of middle ground, but what speed do you all burn at? Also - We are getting a gaming LAN here at Glass Hotel, it's mostly pretty lame "vintage" computers, but I am looking for recommendations for simultaneous multi-player games (not so into the first person shooters - "arcade" style would be better, I think. 80s or 90s vintage, given the geezerliness of the machines) Anyway! Hope everyone is doing great. Geek on, =b PS - we have PCs, Macs AND Amigas, all living together - (think Bill Murray in Ghostbusters saying "Dogs and cats living together - the end of the world!) PPS - I found out recently that the band Ween was hotlinking to my Web site I admin for work. I think it was because they thought my animated GIF was kooky. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 17 Mar 2006 22:02:46 -0800 From: "michael wells" Subject: reap Legendary basketball coach Ray Meyer, 92. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=2373053 ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 17 Mar 2006 22:15:12 -0600 From: 2fs Subject: Re: reap On 3/18/06, michael wells wrote: > Legendary basketball coach Ray Meyer, 92. You know, it's interesting...but that kind of usage of "legendary" is actually fairly recent. A "legend" (if I'm getting this chronology right) was originally the word for the key to map symbols (meaning something along the lines of "how to read this" - legere). At some point it referred to tales of dubious authenticity (the legend of Paul Bunyan) and, presumably given the sort of heroics often offered in such tales, then acquired the meaning of "an outstanding or exemplary instance." From that, of course, the adjective "legendary" moved from describing things like the Loch Ness Monster to, well, famous basketball coaches. What's funny about this is some local health-care plan has some billboards up, saying things like "The South Side's dedication to sports is legendary. So is BigMedCo's dedication to health care." I keep wondering if they mean their dedication is "legendary" in the same way Bigfoot is... - -- ...Jeff Norman The Architectural Dance Society http://spanghew.blogspot.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 18 Mar 2006 13:27:10 -0500 From: "Stewart C. Absolutely wonderful performance, all those anti-Vietnam songs have another application nowadays - and of course Rob hates and loathes Anthony Charles Blair, QC, PC, MP, PM. Went backstage after the gig with my mate Rich who was really worried whether the Broughtons would remember him from the Warwick University sit-in of 1968, but no problems! They were really pleased to see him. He was telling me how he was the first person to show Arthur Grant how to find the A on the bottom string of the bass by using the dots on the neck. Arthur has firmly mastered the bass guitar now. I said to Rob "The last time I met you, you borrowed a wah-wah pedal from me in 1969. When am I going to get it back? He looked really anxious and I had to reassure him that he gave it back to me immediately after the gig. He also showed me how to bounce a Strat on the stage without damaging it (too much), but he didn't do that in Frome. Well worth checking out tomorrow at the 100 Club, Londoners! - - Mike Godwin n.p. (What else?) "Love in the Rain" by the Edgar Broughton Band (Thinks: did the Broughtons nick that riff from the Dr Who theme?) From : [December 12, 2005] THE EDGAR BROUGHTON BAND THE EDGAR BROUGHTON BAND: BANDAGES (ECLCD1033)- LIVE HITS HARDER (ECLCD1032). Eclectic Discs is pleased to announce the release of two classic albums by the legendary and infamous Edgar Broughton Band on February 6th 2006. 1975's "Bandages" was the band's first release upon departing EMI's Harvest label (for whom they recorded five seminal albums and two UK top forty singles of the late psychedelic / early progressive era) and was a strong and highly regarded work featuring a guest appearance by Mike Oldfield. "Bandages" enjoyed a fleeting appearance on CD fourteen years ago, but has been unavailable in any form for over a decade. "Live Hits Harder" was recorded on the bands "farewell" tour of 1976 and secured a limited release in Switzerland in 1979. This atmospheric album makes its debut on CD with the Eclectic Discs release and features superb live renditions of such classic tracks as "Love in the Rain", "Hotel Room", "Evening Over Rooftops" and "Side by Side". The Edgar Broughton Band has been described as "proto-punk", "heavy rock" and "underground" throughout their career. They were recently (and aptly) described as "a bloody good rock band". These Eclectic Discs re-masters will be followed by the release of the remaining two albums in the Broughton catalogue, "Parlez Vous English" and "Superchip" in March 2006 and the first UK and European concerts by the original line up of The Edgar Broughton Band for over ten years. 14th March 2006 Fibbers, York, 15th March The Robin 2, Wolverhampton, 16th March The Boardwalk, Sheffield, 17th March Cheese and Grain, Frome, 19th March 100 Club, London, 21st-26th March Germany = TBA www.eclecticdiscs.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 18 Mar 2006 20:39:43 -0500 From: wojizzle forizzle Subject: NEW on DIME: Robyn Hitchcock 2006-03-04 Seattle http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=87337&hit=1 Torrent: 87337 Title: Robyn Hitchcock 2006-03-04 Seattle Size: 597.57 MB Category: Rock Uploaded by: gilde Description - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Robyn Hitchcock & The Minus Five 3/4/06 The Crocodile Seattle, WA Solo: 01 ItBs Love (?) 02 Leopard 03 I Something You 04 talk With Scott McCaughey: 05 Queen Elvis 06 Sometimes A Blond 07 talk With The Minus Five: 08 If You Were A Priest 09 Acid Bird 10 Viva Sea-Tac 11 talk 12 Tarantula 13 Adventure Rocket Ship 01 intro 02 Briggs 03 Chinese Bones 04 Somewhere Apart 05 Underground Sun 06 Beautiful Queen 07 Madonna Of The Wasps 08 Driving Around 09 applause First Encore: 10 Cigarettes, Coffee, Booze 11 8 Miles High 12 Queen Of Eyes 13 applause Second Encore: 14 Destroy You 15 Listening To The Higsons The Minus Five: Peter Buck Scott McCaughey Bill Reiflin John Ramberg Schoeps MK-4 > custom preamp > Sony SBM-1 a/d with Oade line stage mod > DAT @ 44.1kHz Additional processing in SoundForge 8: Waves L1+ Ultramaximizer (limiter / dither / noise shaping) - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ End of fegmaniax-digest V15 #62 *******************************
